Work stages on a POISON IVY & HARLEY QUINN charity piece! (Patreon)
Content
Above is a Harley & Ivy piece I drew in my limited-color, 11" X 14" con sketch format to benefit the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (BINC) charity, which supports small booksellers in need—including, notably, comic-book retailers. The commission netted a handsome $475 to BINC, I'm pleased to report.
A few words (assuming, that is, I get the time to add some before this post goes up tomorrow):
Branched out—ha ha!—from my usual red and blue colored pencils to add a rather violent neon green cribbed from my grand-nephew's "kid's art starter set" dealie.
Next up, the grayscale version of the piece, scanned by accident when I hit the wrong button on Epson Scan, but saved because I thought it looked interesting:
The initial rough was sketched as a wee thumbnail:
...then cropped and tinkered-with in Photoshop (changed Ivy's figure proportions, etc.), though alas I didn't save the corrections before printing out the modified rough and transferring it to the Bristol:
Next up, a phone pic of the tightened-up H-lead underdrawing:
TBH, I overuse that leg pose seen on Ivy, but f**k it, the g-d riff works and I don't really give a crap if anyone finds it repetitive.
Finally, an in-progress shot of the Sharpie-marker inks, showing two different approaches to inking the tree bark:
That's the blown-up, printed-out rough masking off the center of the pic. If you look closely enough at it, you can see the white lines indicating where I enlarged parts of the Ivy figure in Photoshop.
And that's it, folks! A strong piece, if I do say so myself.
Tomorrow on this here Patreon (where's my g-d BOLD FONT option, Patreon?): Probably another update on Party of Two, including s'more story roughs and work stages on that TikTok dance piece I posted on social this week.
