Sooooo just a tidbit that i think wasn't brought up when u read the chapters for this episode but we got hinted about Flame Clouds allllll the way back in Punk Hazzard when Luffy finds Momo underground goes Momo goes into like a blind panic and passes out and creates flame clouds on instinct to help him and Luffy get out of what was essentially a trash compactor if I remember right

My perspective on the powerscale is that we are meant to view Oden, Kaido & Luffy close to the same level as of the end of this fight. Kaido & Luffy being slightly higher than Oden wit COCH(coating of conqourers haki). Oden probably learned it on his voyage with Roger imo but no evidince other than we know he has Supreme king haki.

There is no way to know if Roger and Whitebeard were stronger or weaker right now, and asking these kinds of questions is likely to inspire a ton of vitriol from people who think that Roger should always remain the strongest in the story. Which I find ridiculous. It's a cheapening of Zoro's dream for one. Zoro HAS to be the strongest swordsman ever at the end of the story, like when people say in hundred, two hundred years into One Piece's future "who was the strongest swordsman", nobody is going to say "Roger, Mihawk, Shanks and Ryouma". It's going to be unequivocally Zoro. The story makes no sense otherwise.

This weeks episode was so good! I'm pretty much reading the manga and watching the anime with you (reading after Wano for the first time). Was it weird Ruff to know what was coming up in an episode of One Piece for the first time in the 1,000+ episodes you've seen? I was really impressed at the fact you didn't spoil anything for the anime only watchers! This arc for me is my all time favorite, everyone gets to shine, the whole crew is together, and the best animation to date. Oda and Toei genuinely poured their heart and soul into this arc and you can feel it with every chapter/episode.

I think the clash was shown to show that Kaido vs Roger is resembling Whitebeard vs Luffy with power levels that are getting close but not quite equal of those two. I think that’s why they showed the Yamato call back to the log at that moment and why they’ve been showing Kaido talk about Luffy with the greats including Rocks and Shanks.

I feel that in that clash we see that oden was clearly not as strong as they were and at this point i feel that kaido and luffy are a bit stronger than oden was at that point so, imo, roger and whitebeard are definitely stronger but it may be like the difference between zoro and luffy right now

See these episodes are great, if maybe 60 to 70 percent were like this I would not care at all. but these are the outliers thats why 1015 was so impactful, because it handled the manga perfectly heck even better than the manga. And this episode plus 1049 looked BEAUTIFULLL but thats not the norm of the anime most of the time its that sub par episodes these episodes are great but we know its not really the norm. On the other hand you are reading 5 chapters in 1 hour and yeah maybe it could take longer if youre dissecting every little thing and refrencing the hell out of it but thats still like 8 ish episodes which is about about a week and then some of the usual 6 eps per week. Thats mainly why it feels slower and then you see the places where it drags on what is 1 panel for like 45 seconds and all i want to do is get to the points where I know theyre going to animate it like this

At 6:24 when he said he likes the auras i was literally thinking “well I can’t wait for them to apologize again 🙄” . I personally like the auras. Cuz most people don’t even realize what enma actually does. That purple stuff is ryou, not just zoro’s typical demon esk aura, it’s ryou. Not haki, but instead ryou, the shit luffy was learning. Think of it like training wheels, the reason enma was impossible for anybody to use is because to use enma you need one thing: conquers haki, and zoro has conquers haki, so when enma was sucking all the haki out of zoro and shows the purple aura when he cut the cliff for example, it’s enma trying to forcibly activate advanced conquers without zoro even knowing how let alone know he has it. Think of it as putting a kid thst has never did a bike before on an adult bike without training wheels, that’s basically zoro and enma

23:55 when you say you see why people might say there is a pacing issue but you don’t understand. That’a because you haven’t be watching it weekly. Imagine the fact you know what next episode should kinda look like and you don’t get it, and that even further delays the animation of chapter 1043 and 1044

Made a great point at the end about not knowing everything that goes into animation- hell, I went to school to study film and even I’m BARELY any more knowledgeable on animation than the layman
