It was hard to gauge whether the blind date was going well or not.

After assuring her that it was perfectly fine the initial picture your mutual friend/matchmaker showed of her was "something like 85 lbs ago," Kim's spirits lifted. She seemed even happier when you let her choose the restaurant. And while it may not have been your first pick, for how hungry she claims to be? The buffet did kind of seem like the most cost-effective option.

But who knew that even buffets had their limits? That "All-You-Can-Eat" is only figurative & not to be taken literally, especially when it's not clearly marked anywhere? While being escorted out, Kim's face seemed locked in an expression of indignation, but just a wee bit deeper? She almost seems... proud of herself? As if it was some kind of accomplishment.

But with your dining experience cut short, she suggests a scenic walk through the park on your way to the ice cream parlor across town. Er... maybe more of a waddle in her case. After a few more choice words about the staff at the buffet, Kim's mood seems to rebound a bit. Until suddenly, she gleefully goes "Ooooh!"

Her pace seems to hasten as she makes her way across the grassy clearing towards a swingset not too far from the playground area. She's already wriggling her wide hips into the flimsy chain before you can express your immediate concern. For one, her rear seems to be held aloft by more chain than actual rubber swing.

"Um..." She playfully purrs, "Would a slight push be out of the question?" Just as you notice the frame of the swingset starting to buckle & creak a bit. You don't want to be the one to tell her "No," but at the same time, you're worried the very laws of physics certainly will.

"Sure," you eventually cave, because even though you've only just met, you have a soft spot for those cheeks & that sweet smile. So you tread carefully around behind her & softly apply your hands into her soft shoulders, gauging how much pressure it's probably going to take.

"Oh come on!" She chides. "You can give it a lot more than that!" It comes as a playful challenge. And as her mass comes swaying back towards you, you push a little hard.

"That's a little more like it," She smirks. But the coy subtext is that she wants a stronger push. She comes back, this time with more force. You try not to waver, instead giving a solid push. When suddenly "Pop!" It wasn't the chains you were worried about, but the actual frame. The momentum is carrying Kim forward & she starts to shriek as she realizes she's not swinging back. Out of sheer instinct, you lunge after her. only to stumble over your own feet.

It didn't go exactly as you planned. Because the next thing you know, you're waking up on a stretcher. A tearful Kim, seeing your eyes start to open, throws her arms around you, making you painfully aware of each one of your cracked ribs. And sure, while you may have heroically broken her fall, you also put her through the agony of thinking that she may have crushed the very life out of you!

So was the blind date a success or not?!

Come to think of it though, she did call the EMT's for you. That had to mean something!

Follow up to that WIP from earlier. Wanted to attempt to do some dusky/night lighting & try a little back lighting while I was at it. If it's a little too dark or weird, let me know & I'll post a flat version as a follow up.

I think the short vignette turned out kind of cute. Hope you like it! Other than this, Bellflower, & exploring art programs on a tablet this past week, I've been making some slight progress as far as animation on things. I'll hopefully have more to show very soon!

But seriously they need to update swing sets to actually fit human beings.

BNevis

I think they sort of do. They're just intended to fit littler humans.

@Sickstar I know, but sometimes it would just be nice to sit on a swing and not destroy it in 30 seconds

I love these short stories

I'm glad! I like writing but sometimes I feel like seeing a wall of text bums some people out. In the future, I feel like the image with the short story is probably the best bet, so be on the look out for more like this.
