Because Diogenes supposedly said that he rather act like a dog rather than a man, as a dog is a more virtuous creature that lacks man's vanities. In fact, the word "cynicism", which is Diogenes' philosophy, came from the greek word "kynikos", which means "dog-like".

Interesting, i didn't know that about antithenes. Also sometimes called Diogenes of Sinope could easily be turned into Diogenes of simpope. Also, the Giga chad moment of him telling Alexander the great to get out of the way. Could definitely turn it into a fem Alexander saying if i could have Diogenes kids i would with Diogenes going i would too, while railing her or something.
