I need to rant about something for a bit, so feel free to not read this if you don't want to hear me ranting.

Is this good? This picture? Do you see how different it is than my usual stuff? I did this following a COMPLETELY different method of construction. It's much more like an actual painting, and what's fun is that i can focus on parts I want to focus on (the face) while completely ignoring parts that I don't (like hands), and I still end up with something that looks cool, but very different.

Here's the thing. THIS ONLY TOOK ME ABOUT 35 MINUTES! My normal comic-book style can take hours and hours, and it'll still look like shit if I don't get every step right. This picture is messed up, but still has an aesthetic to it. Imagine a whole comic-book like this, not my Ladybug comic, but like this, where every panel is its own painting. I can spend a few hours making a big detailed scene, or I can just fuck around in the smaller panels to get a story ponit across. I THINK IT WOULD BE VERY TIME EFFICIENT! But . . . THIS ISN'T MY STYLE AND I DON'T KNOW IF PEOPLE WILL LIKE THIS! I'm not sure that I like it. I really do prefer bright colorful cartoony styles, but honestly, I think I'm floundering with that style a bit. I don't think I've evolved much recently. Maybe I should try a few more pieces like this, and really expand on what styles I can do.

Switching back and forth might be possible . . . It would just be mind-meltingly frustrating. It's easy on my limited bandwidth to focus on one or the other. If I start focusing on this, I might pauce the Ladybug comic to make a short 2 or 3 page comic in THIS style, just to see how it comes across.

Doubt you need the opinion of random person on the net #587 but I like both styles. My old art teacher refused to let us erase or redo anything that we did because even your worst work is a part of the you that you create. So I say experiment away, you never grow unless you try and your failures teach you as much as your successes.

Geeko170

Honestly, I couldn’t see a differance at first, but now that I am really looking at it, I have to say I really like this style.

Ace

Go ahead, try it, i am sure it would be great

No matter how you color/paint I can see this was made by You. Even though this is my opinion, I actually really love this style of coloring.

makai9

I think it looks good bruh there is a sketchier quality to it than your other style but its still nice, if you want to try doing comics using this technique try it you're the artist also older milf / younger guy femdom is hot af to me so I hope Cougar actually gets some unwilling half-her-age dicc before her villainous villainy is thwarted like I want her pinning him down looking all crazy saying "My no good piece of shit husband and I got divorced years ago... But that's OK... You can be my new little fucktoy husband now~" "N-No! Ma'am! W-wait!" "Shh~ Don't try to resist hubby~ Now lets give Marinette a new baby brother or sister~" "O-OH NO! I'M NOT READY TO BE A FATHER! SOMEONE HELP ME!"

My opinion : I like it! I appreciate your hard work and want you to be happy with your work! So if you think this is too different from your style then don't but I find this fits your style! If you can try Mark and Candence in the style next to your normal style and put it up to us! love you Mark! Know you're beautiful and valid!

Krash & Fabs

Looks good, man. Give it a good try.

DresdenQ

I think it looks great! go for it!

Gotta be honest, I really like this. And would love to see more, if you're willing to keep going with it.

markydaysaid

Well you're on my Patreon, so your opinion actually isn't that random. The fact that you're here means you've already gone through two big filters (casuals fans who vaguely know me, but don't inquire, and fans who have inquired but still don't/can't support me on Patreon). I'm also desperate for the feedback since I don't want to make a major change if it pushes away any major percentage of my fans. That's interesting about your art-teacher. That sounds like a fun way to lean actually, and I always have found the 'messier' art to have a bit more personality.

markydaysaid

lol. Thanks. I'm thinking I just need to do a full piece in this style to really test it's viability.

markydaysaid

I'm definitely doing a few more Duke Sketches in this style since they're good things to experiment with. I've also gotta find time to try it on a larger piece.

As an artist, you should experiment. This piece is a damn fine in my humble opinion. Sure, the bit about the hands do bug me out a little, but I'm taking into account this is a sketch and as such can expect a minor dip in quality compared to full-on pieces. I generally try to skip out on constructive criticism because it makes me feel a little dirty critiquing someone's work because not everyone takes criticism, even the most constructive, well. And I'd rather not turn you into a coffee-addicted, turtleneck-wearing moody artist. XD

Marinecoco

I like it but I think there needs to be something in the background, like a building.

markydaysaid

Yes. Working in backgrounds is going to be tricky, because of how the layers work out with this method, but that's something I'll need to look into.

Master Dragon

Oh wow man, this is really cool. Nice job, I kinda hope you do keeva in this style sometime. Also I serious don't think it's a bad job or shitty. But your a way better artist then me.

markydaysaid

Kee-Va would work in this style, yes. I need to do a few more in this style before I'll know if it's something I can develop.

I think I'm with the majority here: I like your style and it looks like your usual lines, so I'm guessing the change is in your shadings, inking or coloring. I really don't know. But I do know that if you can do something like this in literally a fraction of the time you do your other work in then it must be a win, right?

Matty Thunders

YES it is very good! I love it when you do this more painterly approach. I also think that somehow the construction is actually better. Keep going.

Anonymous

Totally agree, looks incredibly, and if it makes you post stuff faster? Keep it going all the way bud

To be perfectly honest, I didn't even notice the hands weren't there until i read the description lol
