I am very, very, very slowly coming out of the bad mood I've been in for the last few days. I've been avoiding my commissions, even the ones that are late. I'm refunding two people since I've basically lost all interest in what they asked me to do. I'm grateful for the work, and the fact that I can't force myself to be excited for other peoples' ideas is a HUGE limitation for me. I can't help it though. I'm such a fucking snob that I can't even get into the head-space of certain fetishes, like the idea of non-cucking where the nerd wins (I will never draw this). I also struggle with OCs that are not mine, because . . . They're not mine, and I'm a selfish snob. I'm trying to get over it. I think my snobbishness is the root of my bad mood this last week.

I'm thinking of canceling my Prince and Fool slots in January for this reason, and moving towards and "open" commission process each month. That way I can hand-select commissions that are of immediate interest to me. That way I won't need to 'work' at being interested in a request I don't like. An open system also gives more patrons an opportunity to commission me . . . With the very snobby caveat that I'll only be choosing ideas that I'd enjoy drawing anyway.

In the meantime, I decided to go through a mountain of abandoned WIPs to see if anything interested me. I have a lot of Kee-Va WIPs that never went anywhere. A lot. I was really excited abut this character when I invented her. So many WIPs. This is one of them. It's basically a big concept sheet for her universe. Originally I was calling her planet 'Agartha' but I changed my mind and am now calling it 'Thuinn,' but this is part of why I hate lore. I hate things being fixed or having rules. I hate that people use the word 'canon' to describe fiction. I really feel like that word should never be used outside of a strictly Christian context, but whatever. Otherwise, I actually prefer that fiction gets constantly ret-conned, changed, ignored, and contradicted. I don't care about comprehensible stories. I care about having fun.

I'm going to try and finish this only because I was using a different coloring technique for it, and I want to experiment with it. The basic idea is that you start with the darkest shade possible, and lighten from there, as opposed to starting in the middle and working in either direction. I think it really worked for Kee-Va and Brule. It kinda worked for the Vril-Ya, and . . . Meh . . . I'm not sure about the planet itself.

World building? Gasp!

Geeko170

Fuck! Why do you do this? This is awesome!!! Why can’t I world build like that? How are you so good!?!

If it makes you feel better, I stole most of it from a 19th century called "The Coming Race" by Edward Bulwer-Lytton. The idea of Vril and the Vril-Ya are from him. In his novel, the Vril-Ya are subterranean spirits though. In my lore, they're basically just magical space elves.

I feel like such a disgusting hypocrite. If I end up with anything resembling a 'glossary' I'm going to kill myself.

Master Dragon

Also are the humans something like descendants of astronauts that crash landed there or something?

markydaysaid

That's the sort of detail I'd rather leave vague, or even imply, but then later contradict with other information. I don't enjoy 'hard lore' so I don't really care how the humans got there. Maybe they're actually depowered Vril-Ya, or just kids plugged into an online game, like Sword Art Online.

Re commissions: should we be sparing or verbose? It's hard to tell what might be overkill for you or not Like should I write for example: "I'd like Fantasy Fight: Prince Philip (Sleeping Beauty) vs Prince Charming (Cinderella)" or "Commission idea: spiritual sequel to Aurora vs Cinderella, Philip vs Charming. 2 scenes / panels at least. 1st scene trashtalk, make reference to last fight's result. 2nd scene Philip fucking Charming's ass. optional 1.5 scene: Philip knocking Charming's sword aside and slashing his clothes."

I ask because sometimes you say "don't give me a novel" and you also write "I'll only take stuff that will interest me" and the line between the two is up to you.
