We did, in fact, encounter a tree with that exact kind of a bend while foraging for mushrooms in the forest. I did actually take a picture of it, wanting to share it with people, but once we got home and opened my phone gallery, there was no photo. It wasn't there. My phone's camera doesn't sometimes save some pictures I take to the gallery for some reason, and we've been meaning to go back to find the tree again on some other foraging trip, but for the time being, I guess we could also suppose that the tree wasn't happy with being photographed after all.

In Japan there are beliefs that trees etc can be inhabited by spirits. Sometimes asking consent before doing anything is key. Did you find any mushrooms?

Nature is great. I once encountered a tree that had been uprooted, possibly blown over by a storm. But the roots simply diverted and grew at an angle back into the ground. So the tree continued to grow despite being on its side. :)
