First two minutes are strictly info, the following seven are background, opinion, etc.

I could have made this video much longer, there's a lot of common complaints I could have addressed and more background info on the situation and how truly inevitable this kind of thing really was etc but I feel like I covered the most important points.

A lot of people having knee-jerk reactions to this, but I'm still glad I went with an uncompromising title and intro. I think viewers are appreciating this style even if it means a lot of them aren't interested in watching beyond the first ten seconds haha. Ultimately, that is their own right!

My opinions are made fairly clear throughout the video but of course if any of you have your own specific concerns or questions, I can do my best to provide you with what insights I can. The long and short of it though is I do think this is for the best for GameMaker and its users, as sad as it is to wave goodbye to the era of permanent licenses on behalf of consumers at large.

Getting GMS through a Humble Bundle was an amazing deal. That said, it's a great point you make that this indicates Opera is taking their investment seriously. This actually makes me feel more confident in the future of the platform.

I just bought the perma-desktop license a few months back and started to follow various tutorials. This definitely made me a little concerned at first, but I think long term it doesn't change too much for me, and I appreciated hearing your measured response Shaun! Maybe someday if I figure out how to make a good desktop game first, then after that I can worry about consoles, and at that point I'd be happy to support GameMaker more.
