Let's go fight people--Er, be heroes!

Commentary

Before we get to the rest of the commentary, no, a character using a "rogue" class doesn't have to behave a certain way in any games I'm aware of. It's just a set of skills that they could have for various reasons.

I would have just had that as a note at the end of the commentary, but I know for a fact that, for some of you, my not addressing that immediately would have been like making your brains wear itchy sweaters.

Professional Ethics Regarding One's Weird Hobby

"Okay! I'm gonna write a comic about Nanase wanting to go beat up imaginary people!"

(Soon)

"Nanase is breaking from her in-game character to make a point about real world ethics? How did I even get here?"

How I even got there was Nanase effectively being an unlicensed freelance detective as a hobby, and me suddenly deciding she would have a professional opinion about taking random things from suspected chicken-nappers.

With infinite panel space and time, I would have liked to have had a nervous-looking Elf Larry in the background of the third panel with the loot from their earlier natural twenty.

Even Paladin gotta pay the bills. Also, you can't let suspects just have magic items they could escape or use against you!

“As a Paladin, I have the right to punish you by seizing all your valuables and donating them to a just cause… myself, so I may continue punishing evildoers”

KC

Ahhh, the eternal internal debate. "What would my character do?" vs "What do I as the player want to do?"

Daryl Sawyer

So long as I donate 10% to some actually worthy cause... or do Paladins no longer have that requirement? (Come to think of it, I'm not sure that's been a formal requirement since 2nd edition.)

AstroChaos

It also depends on which god or gods the Pally belongs to, as to how appropriate taking the loot is.

AstroChaos

Just cuz she's a Rogue doesn't mean she's a Loot Goblin. Or a Lute Goblin, but that's a whole different adventure!

AstroChaos

Naw, she rolled too high on her hotness checks to be a goblin. Though I'm suddenly reminded of this time I played a warlock opposite a goblin rogue that didn't like water. Any time I could, I convinced people that she was a halfling with a disease that required she be bathed. How he ever made it out of the adventure with her shanking him I'll never know 😁
