The most shocking reveal so far of 2022

- At egscomics

Commentary

NO GRACE ISN'T COMPLAINING ABOUT HER BEST FRIENDS!

What? You weren't thinking that?

Well, SOMEONE was, and it was probably FAIR ENOUGH, because *I* thought to make assurances otherwise, so THERE!

Anyway, this Grace thought train hasn't reached its destination yet, we'll get to why this shocking revelation that a main character I wrote is an extrovert is relevant soon.

Diane is also an extrovert, but she hasn't been around as long as Grace, so that's less shocking.

AND! And and and! I'm not saying extroverts just increase in power while hanging out and never get tired! That's ridiculous.

I assume that's ridiculous.

If that's not ridiculous, and you're an extrovert, please only use your powers for good.

Or, if that's too much to ask, please make me a high-ranking minion.

So what you're saying is Grace and Diane New BFFFs? I support this.

Diane just better get used to non-romantic hugs REAL quick.

As an introvert, I can attest that I lose energy when around other people. However, I can also attest that I gain a different sort of energy by socialising, and I do need this energy to be fully happy, but I don’t need it in large quantities, and it costs large amounts of “base energy” in order to acquire this “social energy”. I assume that extroverts require more of this “social energy” to be fully happy, and it takes less “base energy” to do so. Or perhaps they’re more efficient at using base energy in social situations? Either way, I guess they’re just built differently and have different requirements.

Some people may say: “isn’t it better to be an extrovert, so then you don’t lose so much “base energy” in getting this essential “social energy”? Not necessarily, there is a flip side, introverts don’t use much “social energy”, so we can survive a longer period being isolated from people, which comes in handy if you need to focus on work, or work/live in isolated areas, or are forced to lock down during a pandemic. We’re a lot more resilient in these situations, whereas extroverts are a lot more resilient in social situations.

A Red Mage Named Blue

isn't Ellen an extrovert though? Or was she just faking it to try and compensate for being too similar to Elliot?

Handwaving being a squirrel/human/alien hybrid away as minor and irrelevant might just be the most Grace thing I've seen.

AstroChaos

I mean... It's more of a scale and everyone is different. Some introverts - myself included - tend to be very "extroverted" in social situations with folks we are close with. But we still need those gaps AWAY from these situations to recharge and even during them, when the time comes (and the energy gets exhausted) then we are just done with it all. I could totally see Ellen fitting in to this category.

A lot of the extroverts I know seem to focus a lot less on the interactions they have. They don't stress nearly as much on exact wording, either in what they say or what other people have said. I don't know if this is a good or bad thing, merely observed it seems to be happening, and I posit it is possible that it's part of why they take so little base energy to socialize.
