Exciting new technology!

- At egscomics

Commentary

"I guess there's delivery."

(I considered having the delivery line in the comic, but I prefered it ending on "not".)

Authorial intent is this story should fit into canon, which will have certain visual side effects within the storyline that will be evident soon.

Also, the storyline is about Sarah, Grace, and Tedd. Sorry, Tensaided.

I've always said EGS took place in 20XX, so the year is not clear. It also doesn't matter much, because alternate universe and such.

That said, certain technologies were established over the years, and there's been a prominent movie rental place, so... Yeah. If streaming is a thing, it's pretty new in their reality.

Granted, there's also video review shows established, so... Wibbly wobbly timey wimey.

Streaming eats up a LOT of bandwidth, which sucks if you have a data cap or your connection speed is too slow to allow real-time streaming at high resolution. My neighborhood has only ADSL for non-phone-based internet, so any video above 480p resolution is too bandwidth-heavy to play without waiting.

Yeah, I know what you mean. For a while now I had fast, unlimited access here, but when Netflix & Co. first showed up, there was no way for me use their service, with slow speed *and* a data cap.

Just on a technical note, ADSL is still "phone based" in the sense that it (traditionally at least) uses the same copper telephone lines as phones and normal modems.

*looks out the living room window, sees his little pizza oven on the patio* Yes, as it turns out, streaming is in fact right by a pizza place 😁

I see this storyline is titled "Blanket". I've had a very stressful past two weeks, so if this story is all about Sara, Grace, and Tedd cuddling under a blanket while watching movies, I am absolutely all for it. :)

Sorry, I was trying to express “provided by the phone company through the phone itself”, as with cell phone data connections.

Stephen Gilberg

Disney+ surprised me by NOT doing this. "I have to wait until next week for one more episode of 'What If'?"
