SUSAN OPINIONS! Wait, does she even play games???

Commentary

There's plenty of things adjacent to skimpy armor in such games that Susan could take issue with, don't you worry. She's just not going to complain about the armor itself unless it clashes with the tone or something.

In terms of actual armor, I originally just imagined Nanase wearing armored gloves that didn't go past her elbows. From a purely aesthetic standpoint, that would be my preference (I'm allowed to like the aesthetics of swimwear inexplicably combined with boots and gloves, okay?!).

In searching for references for armor, however, I wound up watching some of a video on how medieval armor is put on (ye GODS is it a process). From that, it is my understanding that shoulder plates like these were connected to the torso armor, and wouldn't work with a bare torso.

So, of course, I immediately decided she had to have shoulder plates in order to maximize the absurdity.

Spaulders (which these would be) can work just fine on their own. There'd simply be a strap going around the upper arm to fasten it.

I think armored gloves/gauntlets/bracers would work fine for Nanase, since she's a martial artist and blocks with her forearms. Plus keeping light and maneuverable fits her style. What's that? Stop bringing logic and reason into skimpy armor rationalizations? Fine. Bikini with a force field, have fun. :)

If I recall correctly, Susan has played at least one game; Star Trek Online.

This might be the most Susan thing we've had in some time. Enjoying sexiness without wanting it to be sexual in of itself. Caring and finding issues if it doesn't match the tone of the game. Hell, even her not playing these kinds of games but enjoying watching her friends play them is spot on. I agree with her mind you, it just amuses me that we can get a pretty good snapshot of Susan from a single 3-pannel comic about video games.

"I originally just imagined Nanase wearing armored gloves that didn't go past her elbows." And then I imagined Nanase wearing ONLY the gloves. O_O

Yarp. When it comes to why some folks have a grievances for most of the costume designed for women in video games, it has to do with one word that is the difference between sexiness and sexualizing.
