Urge... To fill empty space in... Panel three... RISING...

"But that's the whole point."

I KNOW BUT STILL

(Note: I'm not suggesting I don't like the blank space. I do. There's just an impulse to fill it)

EDIT - Wrote "live" instead of "life"

Commentary

Rich and "Bad" Tom are potentially recognizable, but the woman in the background of panel two isn't based on anyone in particular. I wanted one of the people getting ideas to be a woman, but I haven't yet introduced anyone in canon I would want to put in that role, so I just drew someone with wildly asymmetrical hair for fun (as one does).

How Rhoda Met Catalina

Catalina was originally intended to be the Hero of Magic. There was just one problem: I had literally chosen her for no other reason than Rhoda being the Hero of Melee. I had no story in mind, no twists or anything specifically suited for her character, nothing. Zip.

Then I got an idea for another character taking on that role, and I liked the ideas I had for them a lot, but I still wanted this version of Rhoda to meet a version of Catalina.

So now this is happening.

Also, I gave Catalina way over-the-top cat-ear hair, because why not. I'm having fun with hair.

Typo in panel two: "All my live" should be "all my life". Also, nice gag!

Qwertystop

The middle lady in panel two looks rather a lot like the barkeep from the previous page – slimmer build, but the arm position masks that a little, and the hair is quite similar if less shaved.

Notimeformeta

Well, if your not having Catalina be the hero of Magic, maybe she could be the party rogue or thief? Every good adventuring party needs a rogue to disable traps and unlock locks. The hero of slight of hand! ...or something.. Although that might not fit the theme to well, cuz the only Fable mechanic for dealing with traps that I can remember was to just walk over them.

Paul Lenoue

In panel three you could put in "running away very fast" lines.

Thisguy

Wait, those cat ears are hair? Why? This is fantasy! Don’t tell me there isn’t some kind of cat person race.

KiTA

Kinda expected clouds of smoke and speed lines. Maybe one of them with the "That's my fetish!" grin.

Anonymous

I was also expecting some speed lines or a left over dust in panel 3. At first I was totally change-blind and mentally filled the void with the characters from panel 2 as it almost felt like the panel was not finished.

On second thought, a naive uneducated hero who can swing a heavy mallet... that could come in handy. Maybe these characters from panel 2 should stick around a bit longer. They can think of something.

Orcus

Shouldnt rhoda be level 5 in strength if she's the hero of melee?

Anonymous

If it bothers you enough, you *could* draw a star-like thing to showcase something *will* be there eventually.

Thisguy

I'm an idiot. It took me this long to figure out the empty space in panel 3 was because everyone had left. Guess I don't consider a super strong naïve former priestess a threat... Maybe you could have put outlines to highlight that everyone had left?

jubs

I know this is petty, but man that 's' at the end of 'kilos' is bothering me. To me it should work like with pounds, i.e. "this mallet weighs a hundred pounds" but also "this is a 100 pound mallet"... Maybe I'm just insane.

Chordat

plus, whiskey gives ranged XP, not melee. You want beer for that. I am absolutely serious, alcoholic drinks in Fable 2 give bonus XP just like potions do. Beer gives Melee, Spirits give Ranged, and Wine gives Magic.

Mark

No, that's how the terminology usually works.

I feel like the last panel is missing a few movement air clouds to convey the fact everyone fled when she mentioned the hammer. Still very funny thought :3

McZed

Unseen Cat thought bubble in panel 3: "...Badass."

KiTA

Also - maybe instead of blank space, they could all be striking nonchalant poses instead while sweating? Reminded of a bit from one of the Discworld books. Wherein Carrot (a ~7 foot tall man raised by Dwarves, so he's ~350-400 pounds of pure muscle) was walking from the Dwarven country to Ankh-Morpork, he kept running into roughly dressed men who would jump out behind rocks and trees and go "Oh, sorry, wrong person." Because 7 foot tall 350 pounds of muscle travelers don't get mugged, they have very uneventful trips with lots of people mistaking them for someone else over and over again. ;)

That's what was bothering me about the sentence! Something felt off about it to me but I didn't put my finger on it until I saw your comment.

Some Ed

I think it's the barkeep's daughter. Which is the only reason why she and her friends are still allowed in here.

Some Ed

Just because there are fantasy cat races doesn't mean there can't also be humans who go to ridiculous lengths to manage their hair in order to resemble those other races that they so much would rather be.

Some Ed

OMG, not right away! It's like you haven't played these games at all! To be fair, I've not played Fable at all, but if the level cap is only 5, I'd assume the hero of each specialty comes in at level 1 or maybe level 2 at most. However, since there's a visual appearance to the level, they'll physically appear about two levels past what they currently are - which explains Rhoda's abs.

Thisguy

Yeah, but seriously, why would you NOT take the opportunity in a fantasy story to make Catalina a cat person?

Anonymous

Slight nitpic. Carrot is 6' 6", not 7'. His Dwarven name translates to "Head Banger."
