Chapter 2414: Won't Be Back for Five or Six Years

This time, it was the Emperor's first lecture series since taking office. Since the downfall of the Second Prince's faction and his subsequent execution, the capital had stabilized. Over the past few years, both the economy and the military had seen significant development.

Now, it was evident that the Emperor intended to promote education.

Both publicly and privately, Meng Yunzheng would not miss this lecture series. Speaking of which, he hadn't been to the capital for four years now. Mengmeng was almost three years old this year, and at her age, it wouldn't hurt to take her to the capital for a visit and also to see old friends.

Meng Yunzheng had everything arranged, but Meng Pei sighed heavily.

"If you all go, then I won't be able to see Mengmeng for a long time," he said.

Currently, Meng Pei was still working at the county's escort agency. Since the birth of his granddaughter, he had mostly been taking short-distance trips. However, this time, he was faced with a long journey down south, to a place he was familiar with. The head of the escort agency hoped he would accompany them.

In these past few years, the people at the escort agency had been taking good care of him, so Meng Pei naturally couldn't refuse.

The only downside was that he wouldn't be able to see his granddaughter for a long time, and he worried that she might forget him during that time.

When Mengmeng heard her name mentioned, she raised her head, a few grains of rice still on her lips. She used her little finger to swipe them away, then stuffed them back into her mouth. Afterward, she lowered her head and continued eating, burying almost her entire face in the bowl.

Every time Meng Pei saw her eat, he felt like she had an especially good appetite. Even ordinary dishes seemed to taste extraordinarily delicious to her.

He smiled, withdrew his gaze, and began discussing the specifics of the upcoming trip.

Little Mengmeng, amidst the conversation of the adults, finished all the food in her bowl. She sighed contentedly, lifted her head, and was about to wipe her mouth with her sleeve in a grand manner.

However, just as her little hand started to rise, she felt an undeniable gaze fixed on her.

The little girl turned her head slowly and saw her own mother smiling at her.

She blinked her eyes and quietly put her hand back down, then looked at Meng Yunzheng, who was sitting next to her. "Daddy, I'm full."

Meng Yunzheng suppressed a smile and used a handkerchief to wipe her face.

Little Mengmeng tilted her small head and, after her face was clean, she got down from the dining chair. She waved her hand to the three of them, "Mommy, Daddy, Grandpa, I'm going to take a nap now."

"Go ahead."

With that, Ying Xi took her hand and they headed to the Lu family's residence.

As soon as they entered the gate, a figure outside rushed over. "Mengmeng, I'm here!"

Little Mengmeng turned her head and saw the newcomer excitedly stomping his feet. "Big Brother."

Huo Huo was five and a half years old this year, which was when he was most energetic. As soon as he arrived, he first hugged Mengmeng and spun her around, scaring Ying Xi, who quickly reached out to protect her, fearing that he might drop her.

"Big Brother, it's been so long since I saw you. How have you been lately?"

Huo Huo put her down and scratched his head. How long had it been? Didn't he just see her yesterday afternoon?

Well, she was still young, so if she said it had been a long time, then it had been a long time. Maybe her concept of time was different from others.

Huo Huo held her hand and walked towards the Yu Garden. "I've been good. How about you?"

Mengmeng replied with a hint of worry, "Not so good."

"Huh?" Huo Huo immediately asked nervously, "What's wrong? Are you not feeling well?"

"Ah." The little girl sighed, looking particularly troubled. "Daddy said we're going to the capital, which is a very, very faraway place."

She gestured with her hand, "It's so far that we might not be back for five or six years."
