Chapter 2365: Unexpected Guest

The young Cheng family member guarding the courtyard gate felt his heart skip a beat. He suppressed his voice and asked in a hushed tone, "Who is it?"

The voice from outside also lowered. "I'm looking for Rong Hou."

The young Cheng family member's expression changed slightly. If someone was looking for Rong Hou, it must be related to the black market.

"Wait a moment."

He retreated quietly a couple of steps and then silently made his way to the main hall to find Meng Yunzheng, who was in conversation with Rong Hou.

"Meng Master, someone has arrived outside and urgently knocked on the door. They said they're looking for Rong Hou."

Meng Yunzheng exchanged a glance with Rong Hou, and a sense of unease settled in. "Did you have any appointments to meet someone at this time?"

"No."

So, the person had come unexpectedly. Was it due to some unforeseen circumstances, or...

Meng Yun Zheng immediately called four or five people and instructed the young Cheng family member to inform Shu Yu, Prefect Magistrate Cheng, and the others. He then said to Rong Hou, "Let's go and see."

A few of them quickly arrived at the courtyard gate. Rong Hou whispered anxiously, "Who's outside?"

"It's me."

Rong Hou widened his eyes in surprise, then turned to Meng Yunzheng and whispered, "It's Liu Jie, Lord Liu."

Meng Yun Zheng narrowed his eyes slightly. He knew Liu Jie. In these days, Rong Hou had thoroughly briefed the black market, including the network of relationships that Meng Yunzheng was familiar with. Liu Jie was one of the top figures in this network and the second-in-command in the black market of the southwest. He was a mysterious figure who rarely showed himself, and very few people in the black market had ever seen him in person.

If it weren't for Rong Hou being one of his subordinates, he probably wouldn't recognize him either.

He hadn't expected Liu Jie to appear in person.

Meng Yunzheng waved his hand, and Rong Hou quickly took a deep breath before opening the door, revealing Liu Jie's somewhat weary face.

Rong Hou was surprised. "Lord Liu, what's going on?"

Once Liu Jie confirmed that it was Rong Hou, he didn't say much and just gestured toward a corner. Following his gesture, more than ten people gradually emerged.

Rong Hou's heart skipped a beat. He thought Liu Jie had discovered something wrong with the Cheng mansion and had brought people to deal with it.

However, before he could react, Liu Jie gave urgent instructions in a low voice. "Quickly prepare a room, and find a reliable doctor. Hurry."

Rong Hou hesitated for a moment before realizing that among the more than ten people who had arrived, some of them appeared to be injured, and one was being carried by a burly man.

Even Liu Jie was nervous, so this person's identity was definitely not simple.

Upon Meng Yunzheng's signal, Rong Hou quickly agreed and instructed two people beside him. One was sent out of the door, and the other went to "prepare the room" in the courtyard.

Rong Hou then opened the door wider and led Liu Jie and his group inside.

All of Liu Jie's group members were fully armed, carrying weapons and draped in cloaks. They kept their heads slightly lowered, effectively concealing their faces.

Rong Hou closed the door behind them, and Liu Jie led the group further inside. Even Meng Yun Zheng, who had been lurking in the shadows, quietly bolted the door.

Liu Jie didn't notice Meng Yunzheng and walked anxiously beside the injured person. His forehead was almost in knots due to tension.

Soon, they reached the backyard and entered one of the courtyards, where they placed the injured person on a bed.

Meng Yunzheng and a few of his men had been following behind. They had intended to enter the courtyard, but to their surprise, there were two cautious guards stationed outside the courtyard who prevented anyone from entering except for Rong Hou.

Meng Yunzheng could only stop in his tracks and wait. After the room's candlelight was lit, he subtly raised the curtain and, in the next moment, his expression changed slightly.

One of the people guarding the courtyard gate was unexpectedly a familiar face.
