Chapter 694: Taking Back the Token

Now, they had found a breakthrough.

Both Magistrate Cheng and Qi Chan believed that Shu Yu played a role in these events.

After all, if it weren't for waiting for her, they wouldn't have returned so late, and the county magistrate wouldn't have been frightened by a dead tiger in the dim light.

If it weren't for her and the others going into the mountains to hunt the tiger, the county magistrate of Heichang County might have continued causing trouble for some time.

The reopening of the case from two years ago and the identification of the culprit were significant achievements for Magistrate Cheng

However, there was no need to involve Shu Yu in these official matters.

Qi Chan took out the jade pendant and returned it to Shu Yu. "Keep this with you. If there's anything in the future, feel free to find me. I owe you a favor for bringing Yao Tianqin to see me today."

Shu Yu glanced at the jade pendant and swiftly accepted it. As she had said, personal favors couldn't be exhausted.

"Thank you, Master Qi, but it was just a matter of introducing uncle Yao to you. I was a bit worried that I might be bothering you and Magistrate Cheng. But seeing that everything has turned out well, I feel relieved."

"Miss Lu, today I thank you on behalf of Yao family," Yao Tianqin expressed his gratitude excitedly, repeatedly thanking Shu Yu. He was grateful not only for introducing him to Qi Chan but also for rescuing him from the clutches of the constables.

Shu Yu waved her hand. "Uncle Yao, you and Master Qi are old acquaintances, and I happened to have the opportunity to meet Master Qi. I simply connected the dots. I was actually a little worried that I might disturb you and Cheng Xian. But now that everything seems to be going well, I am at ease."

"Miss Lu, thank you for today," Yao Tianqin expressed his gratitude once again, thanking Shu Yu not only for introducing him to Qi Chan but also for rescuing him from the constables.

Shu Yu waved her hand. "Uncle Yao and Master Qi have a lot to catch up on. My father and I won't disturb you any longer. We'll take our leave."

Cheng Xian laughed. "Alright, go about your business. It's rare to have a couple of days off, and it would be a waste to spend them here."

Qi Chan nodded in agreement. He still had many things to discuss with Yao Tianqin in detail.

Shu Yu bid them farewell and left the county yamen with Luo Erbai.

Apart from them, Yao Bo remained at the county yamen. He had nothing to do, so he left with them.

However, as soon as they stepped out of the main gate of the county yamen, they saw a group of people coming out of a side door.

Shu Yu, with her sharp eyes, quickly recognized them.

"These people seem to be the ones who were just detained and interrogated in the courtroom with Uncle Yao. It looks like they were questioned by Magistrate Cheng's trusted guard and released without any suspicious findings."

Shu Yu commented, but there was no response. She turned her head and saw her father looking absent-minded.

"Father, Father, what's wrong with you?"

Luo Erbai was still feeling a bit surreal. He had actually seen the Prefect Magistrate today.

He had never seen such a high-ranking official in his entire life, and now the Prefect magistrate was standing right behind him, walking wherever he went. The proximity was overwhelming.

"Father."

Luo Erbai  snapped back to reality. "Ah? Oh, right. You were talking about the interrogation room."

He followed Shu Yu's gaze. "With the Prefect magistrate's trusted men personally conducting the interrogation, they certainly wouldn't act recklessly like those constables. These people are innocent, so they were released."

Shu Yu wanted to say something else, but her words carried a deeper meaning. "Didn't see Boss He, huh?"
