I suspect that Liz was poached in the same manner as Claire, but instead of asking questions about her role, just rode along with it until she was given her office. It would be curious to know what Liz specialises in, and how relevant it is to her role in Cubetown.

ahh, I think I see what's going on, she's incredibly gifted but cube town provided no direction to her, she's done nothing during her stay and is afraid that, should claire become the librarian, her failiure to produce work will be exposed, instead of the more likely option that she will be given direction and find a way to her job more easily, she's locked herself into a corner and burned her social bridges out of a misguided misanthropy and now is terrified of the concequences

What I see is rather “what befell me must not befall you too”, i.e., Liz may try to warn Claire that Cubetown culture sucks your soul and energy but is somehow at the same time hard to let go of. IDK 🤷
