I suppose that Jeph could write a Naruto-like scenario with multiple potential SOs fighting behind the blissfully ignorant protagonist's back for his attention. Of course, it would be more fun for the protagonist to be fully aware and feel morally obliged to both referee and ensure none of them are hurt. Naturally, this nobility only makes things worse!
