I have no clue why I keep putting myself through watching reactions to this episode but I’m going to do it again

Death by feels. This episode destroyed me - for multiple reasons - and cemented Squid Game among the all-time greats. There are moments in this episode that make me tear up just brushing past my consciousness, over a month after I first watched. Simply cannot give any higher praise to writer/director Hwang Dong-hyuk - to make us care so deeply about so many characters in such a short span of time... he is a true master.

My heart is already broken all over again just from the thumbnail. Our Jeju gfs😔

*glances at thumbnail* Yes, thank you, I do live by the Saebyeong agenda and am ready to cry for the…eighth time. :) Lmao, thanks for the reaction, Kaia! 🤍

I can't count how many times I've cried to this episode, and yet I still watch reactions to it 😅

I think this episode is so emotionally taxing both because we lose so many favorite characters and also because they are using deception to do it to each other - I don't think it would have been nearly as bad if the same set of characters had died in a red-light green-light style challenge. The deception that previously "moral" characters like Gihun and Sangwoo rely on makes the sacrifices of Jiyeong and Ilnam that much more striking. On a different note, I hate the scene when they're picking teams and Minyeo is dragged out begging. She always seems so fearless with the guards (the bathroom thing, the way she said, "what are you looking at" at the beginning during the search), so it is so heartbreaking to see her break down even though she, like all of them, is morally dubious.

For me this was the most messed up episode. It's the perfect example of "life is not fair" but at the same time it kind of shows you that being selfish is sometimes good for you and the others.
