"I bow before my mother and I shall rejoice as I see her guiding all the wayward souls into her grasp, herding them like sheep to the slaughter. "

-Unknown

The Soulherder Hag is one of the 75+ monsters included in our upcoming book - Erevan's Guide to Death and Beyond launching on Kickstarter on May 21st!

In the gloomy expanses of the Plane of Shadow, soulherder hags move with sinister intent and a macabre grace. These dark Fey are far removed from any quaint forest inhabitants, embodying instead the very essence of fear and decay. To mask their true, daunting forms, they conjure illusions of beautiful young women, a deceptive veneer that lures unsuspecting prey into their grasp. Beneath this facade, their true nature is far more horrifying: towering beings that stride on four muscular, twisted arms that act as massive legs. Their diminutive, withered humanoid legs hang motionless, contributing to their ghastly silhouette. The heads of these hags bear a disturbing resemblance to malevolent elks, topped with crowns of dense, twisted antlers. These antlers are not merely ornamental but vital tools of their dark rituals, etched with arcane symbols that aid in their deep connection to blood and shadow.

Origins

Soulherder hags trace their sinister lineage back to the Plane of Shadow, a realm cloaked in perpetual twilight and silence. However, their malevolent influence extends far beyond, plaguing the dreams of individuals living on the fringes of ancient, dense forests shrouded in mystery and fear. The inception of these Fey creatures was sealed through an unholy pact with an ancient entity hidden in the deepest pits of the Nether. This dark covenant endowed the soulherder hags with dominion over the deceased, allowing them to create their bloodling “children,” and sacrifice them to the entity for even more power.
