The headline is in the title: r/fantasy invited me to one of their AMA-styled panels, so please stop by if you want to ask me something. There are also four other authors who write progression fantasy, some of them much more popular than I am, so check it out!

That's all for now, hope to see you there!

I will have a look, though I just never have anything I particularly want to ask an author so I mostly read AMAs when they are over.

Completely fair, just upvote so more people can participate before it's over!

I’m following it now. The one you did in 2020 is how I discovered you.

Nice, I’m so glad to see you use old.reddit as well

sarahlin

Good to hear! I'm enjoying this one, when my internet will cooperate enough to let my posts through...

I had to recently remove my old reddit redirect addon because the old post version lacks some of the new features I needed in a sub, but I still keep switching to old for normal browsing, just wastes too much screen space when scrolling through posts.

You know weirdly I am not really a fan of either genre despite having read books from 3 out of 5 author on the panel. I had a litrpg reading phase but by now usually only read them when I expect them to be very light on the whole showing stat and skill details and stuff. (That part tends to be a bit boring to me and make the world weird. I like making such decisions in a game but often they aren't interesting decisions to read about. Unless something unusual is done with the game elements.) And progression fantasy, well nothing against the protag gaining power but it doesn't trigger dopamine as effectively for me as it seems to do for some readers and I care more about the rest of the story. Like I like the cradle series but not because of his constant power gain (though it is necessary for that story) also if there was more downtime I would probably like it more but that is more about pacing. (So I don't dislike progression but I read them mainly for the non progression parts.)

Yeah, I think that any genre is going to include readers coming at it from different angles. Somebody asked a similar question in the AMA and I tried to articulate some of the ways that what I find most interesting might not be what someone else likes about the genre.
