In lieu of a chapter, I have something fun: a visual representation of Theo's soulhome. You guys expressed way more enthusiasm for this sort of thing than I expected, and thanks to some help from a supporter, I'm able to present something better than my scribblings. ^-^

I hope my written descriptions in the book were enough for everyone to understand the basic shape, but this one fleshes out some positioning details. For example, Theo's defensive and strengthening chambers are only briefly mentioned, so their location is new information. They will be explored further in the second book, which covers some concepts the first only brushed past, like enhancement rooms and ascension.

Please let me know what you think! I have soulhome designs for Fiyu and Nauda coming up, plus a little dialogue-based image where they'll discuss soulcrafting and evaluate other blueprints. Look forward to that stuff on the way to the release of the first book!

Neat!

Maybe body augments should be in the corners and gravity abilities on sides due to proximity to black hole in center?

Though that's a valid design, Theo has something else in mind. I haven't gotten into this detail yet, but the augment rooms also generate small amounts of cantae. His design is to get all of his cantae orbiting around his soulhome, suffused with more from the center and the individual rooms.

Very cool - I like that! Brings the whole floor together in a cohesive fashion rather than remaining as 9 discrete rooms. And completely matches the overall theme of a black hole with the orbiting cantae. Are there other benefits/uses of having swirling cantae separate from it working so well thematically? Will that act as a funnel, pulling more in than you would get if you just let the cantae store itself organically?

sarahlin

It doesn't serve as a funnel, but it does mean that every room is getting a steady influx of new cantae. Poor soulhome designs (like one heart chamber at the end of a long hall) might have enough raw power, but it can't flow through fast enough to feed every chamber. Theo's design makes sure that every room is constantly feeding into the others. There's actually going to be a fun little soulhome architecture post, written in character as the cast, that will give some more details. Look forward to it!

Is it possible to dig into the ground of one's soul to build something like an underground cellar or basement? If so how does that affect a soul home?

sarahlin

Novice soulcrafters would say digging downward is impossible, intermediate soulcrafters would say it's unwise, but the truly advanced... you'll get plenty more information about this far down the road.
