[Retrospective] // 35 Hour Crunch & Why things take FOREVER (Patreon)
Content
Howdy friends~!
So I'll let the video do most of the talking but to summarize it, this is a devlog about retrospective and finding out why things take so long to finish (and what we can do to make it better).
It's also a time-lapse of the 35 hours of work I crunched on the holidays so it's there too if you're curious! It's a lot of just chill rambling but I tried my best to visualize things for you.
---
SPOILERS :
(if you don't want to watch 8-minutes of my rambling)
[ Where all my time went... ]
---
Basically, I recorded my crunch time and a whopping 83% of that time was literally me just entering data into the game. That's 20 hours of sitting and copy & pasting text.
And it wasn't 20 hours of like having Netflix on the side and taking it slow. I literally put on some music and just FOCUSED (it was guilty pleasure dance hits from the 90's if you were curious). To say the least, my Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V fingers hurt at the end of the day.
I also go on to breaking down the current process and theorizing on better ways to do things.
---
[ Contemplating on making better decisions in the future... ]
---
I also go into the really ill-prepared code I've made in the past and how it's affected the efficiency of the game. Below is an example of that kind of code, and I explain it a bit more in the video (@4:28).
---
[ Better code practices I will use in the future ]
---
If you're a programmer, maybe you can actually enlighten me to better practices! But for now, I'm slowly learning and hopefully it'll mean better things in the future.
Cheers!
