My friends, it's time for the next picking workout challenge! This is the exercise routine that I'm currently working on and I'm happy to show it to you in this lesson. Thanks to all Gold/VIP/Platinum members for voting for this topic, it's always a blast :)

Here are your files for this lesson (play-along video, tabs, guitar pro files, backing tracks): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1yTw0_1X-nk2o7w9_WrJw8mM8R_Mh22R6?usp=share_link

Please make sure not to skip the intro of this video - this will show you how to practice this seemingly basic workout and why it's so important. It might look like a basic semi-chromatic drill at first, but you will see how challenging it is when you give it a try :)

As always, here's a Dropbox folder in case Google Drive doesn't work for you: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/oxp7sbdy8qn0fs2gbswxc/h?dl=0&rlkey=xnwx4tjkrcuckbmxpgq0280dt

Love this workout, definitely gonna use this for working my fretting hand and picking. Got stuck at 80 but I'll try and break that tomorrow

Awesome thank you this was what i was just thinking about Bernth, going from one string to another in one note. My question is could you cross pick just the string transition and then go back to single escape as an good approach, since crossing escapes all the time basically? Also i been thinking about situations were you have one single notes on each string, like transitioning from one string then another in a single note back and forward which would require constant change in picking escape with only one note to change it? One note per string stuff where want to not sweep it. Thank you Bernth in advance for advice 😃

So I’m up to 90-100… but I’m dragging my thumb. I’ve been working to stop this with scales and other exercises that go up the neck. Anyone have tips for me besides greasing the neck?

It's awesome - today is my third attempt to make it, and it's actually significantly better than two days before!

Ha ha! I read the bpm on that thumbnail as "808."

Oh yess, i keep going to finish the lessons ... 160bpm it faster than i can ride for todays, better than yesterday. I progress really well and i like it.

Appeared to be harder than expected.

This has been great for getting started with warm ups - enjoying putting this into the beginning of my practice

Love this exercise! really forcing me to keep the pinky down. I know i'm a bit late to the convo, but how much space should there be between my finger and the fretboard for my pinky(it keps flying away haha)

Anonymous

check exercise #182 there are some exercises for finger control, keeping them close to the fretboard

Nice workout. You make 180 bpm look almost effortless.

day one and i can get up to 80bpm clean, stay tuned

Probably a very common question, what's a good way to grip the pick? I've started gaining some good speeds but I start running into problems at around 120+.. I realised that it might be how I hold my pick. It's pinched between the tips of my thumb and index. I also realised that I have slight movement of fingers, slightly up/down motion along with the wrist so they work against one another. How do you guys grip it?

I’m trying to hold the pick like bernth. Was playing using an open hand position for years. I just noticed that the tip of my index finger is hitting the string while picking. Gosh so difficult to change that habit now

Could anyone point me toward a lesson where he talks about when to use which picking angle?

I've just started great exercises, but I feel that this is the right direction. Thank you.
