You voted for it, you get it - it's finally time to dive into picking technique and speed again! :) We never really talked about these 3 topics so far, so I'm quite excited to share this with you today - hopefully, it helps to speed up your playing right away!

Here's the picking speed package I made for you, 4 levels of very effective speed exercises (video play-alongs, backing tracks, tabs, guitar pro files): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ZaUJc3H9Zpg3Wdck2TmykyURTc2b7zzb?usp=sharing

Please make sure to watch the lesson first to learn about the practice goals with each exercise! I'm currently working on the home recording course/episode that most of you voted for, it turned out to be a pretty big project but the wait will be worth it!! Have an awesome day :)

P.S.: Here's a Dropbox folder in case Google Drive doesn't work for you: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/vcsgwangj62caqv/AABMw_Kv-z-d8Z2odxyYB36Da?dl=0

These leasons have been very good for me. Not only am I keeping a better practice routine, I have been noticing flaws in my technique when going over these exercises.

Funny that I got this notification like 30 seconds after I started playing your album on Spotify 😝

About a month ago I noticed my picking arch and that you didn't have one. I've been working to fix this and to float above the strings instead of anchoring my wrist to the guitar. This was a huge find and I'm glad you are telling everyone else!

Perfect timing! I'm just about finishing up the 30 day hand synchro course, but still having issues doing the challenge past 100bpm! Looking forward to this one

Publikum!!!! I am yours! Thank you Bernth!

Absolutely the best alternate picking teacher on YouTube! The play along videos and GP files are golden!! Thank you Bernth!!!!

Thanx for those exercises, I'm really improving my speed and control.... Publikum!!!

I'm guilty of planting my wrist in one spot and my entire forearm has often rested flat on the body of the guitar. No-one has ever pointed out that this was a problem (and a barrier to speed) until now. It seems the only time I've been doing things right are when I'm sweeping, which I've never really practiced as I always wanted to get my fundamentals right first. Thank you so much from sunny Scotland!!

Exercise 2 speaks to floating your picking hand or not having it touch the guitar. Correct?

Hey Bernth! I have a question. I've been following in some daily routines and 30 days courses for hand synchronization and speed technique. Maybe I will take more time that 30 days as I expected, but I hope to doing it well. So, I'm training in 110-130 range, but I've noticed that for some time lapses when my wrist get tired, I start to "help" the rythm of my wrist with the fingers that I hold the pick. I mean, I've noticed that I start to move index and thumb a little bit. In some videos that I've watched, nobody talks about that "involuntary" movement. Thinking in a good technique the fingers movement are fine or is an un controlling action due to a bad technique?

came out at the perfect time! i was waiting for a lesson like this😁

My publikum wouldn’t like me if I played this Way too hard for me haha I’m going back to the beginner shred lesson

If anyone here hasn't already, go listen to When It Rains, It Pours off Elevation. It is an absolutely beautiful piece!

bernth

Great question Robert! I personally always have to be connected to the instrument for maximum control, so my hand/wrist is still resting on the bridge - but I'm moving my hand along, just like with sweep picking :)

bernth

Great question Alejo! :) It's a bit hard to give feedback without a video, I set up a closed Facebook group for our VIP members to give input to technique footage - but overall I try not to use the fingers of my picking hand when I'm playing!

bernth

Thanks so much for sharing this Joe, there's something special concerning this song coming next year :) One of my favorites for sure, thanks for listening!

Was mich noch interessieren würde beim Übergang zwischen den saiten ob man da den Winkel des pic anpasst wenn man zb von tiefen auf hohe saiten wechselt und dann zurück. Evtl gibtd ja schon einen Post für string transitions?

This video made me excited to start the picking speed package. I'm working daily in the "Hand Synchronization" and "Legato" courses. Is it to much to work both and this one everyday? Sometimes my wrist hurts a bit after sessions...

Bernth, I have been trying really hard to do exercise 1. It appears my thumb on the back of the neck does not move properly like yours. Can you please show us how your thumb moves from the back view? I cannot seems to get the speed right

bernth

Hey Oliver, ich denke das wird dir helfen, hier geht es um die beiden Winkel und wie sie zur Anwendung kommen: https://www.patreon.com/posts/143-this-is-why-45915178

Thanks for sharing this António! I'd suggest completing the 2 courses first, they will give you the perfect foundation to tackle these advanced workouts :) Please also make sure not to injure yourself, please take care!

Hey Jason, I try to keep my thumb behind my middle finger to get the best amount of support for my fingers/stretching! I summarized the fretting hand technique basics here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/194-this-one-can-57031400 And this one features an in-depth explanation of 4NPS workouts in general: https://www.patreon.com/posts/119-4-note-per-42432823

Zwischen Level 2 und 3 bin ich dann verloren

I started having an easier time with alt picking after working on my sweep picking and I think this is why.

Anonymous

I just realized that I was actually swallowing the pick with my hand too much. I decided to let the pick stick out a bit more and suddenly I could pick much faster!
