DachaBo Report 06/07/23 (Patreon)

Hey everyone, welcome to today's dev report! Last month was pretty quiet for us but for a good reason; now that we have a lot to cover, we're going to split it up per project to make sure y'all get an update on time. Tomorrow's report will be for The Groom of Gallagher Mansion.

DachaBo Classic Port - Version 0.52 Released!

Thanks to Flimbingo, the original proof-of-concept demo for DachaBo has been ported to Ren'Py! This demo is pretty much a 1:1 port of the TyranoBuilder version that provides stability to the game functions as well as proper compatibility on Macintosh, Linux, and Android. Please note that this demo does not function on the Steamdeck, and we will be investigating why to the best of our ability. Right now the running theory is that the non 16:9 resolution doesn't play nice with the Steamdeck.

The GUI outside of the main game loop is currently a bit rough (I think I accidentally left the Patron credits in the Preferences screen...), but for the most part, this will play on most modern OSes. You'll find the downloads at the bottom of this post!

UPDATE: We've received multiple reports from Android players that Patreon doesn't like .apk files, so we're setting up a private itch.io page for distributing the DachaBo Classic port. The password for this page is PuppyBo

Android Installation Instructions:

1. Sideload the .apk file to your device from your desktop computer, or download directly to your device.

2. Locate the file to start the installation.

(If this is the first time you’re installing an .apk file from outside Google Play, Android will warn you and ask your permission to continue. Grant permission in your settings to install DachaBo Classic. Afterwards, you may set the permissions back to default if desired.)

3. Tap on Install, then run the game.

As a note to our iOS players: due to Apple's strict policies against hosting adult content on the Apple App Store, it's unlikely that any SnaccPop Studios games will be officially available on iOS. We're looking into alternatives for allowing those players to enjoy our games and apologize for the inconvenience.

DachaBo: Barks & Mews Pre-Production

As we wrap things up on The Groom of Gallagher Mansion, we've onboarded a separate team of sensitivity consultants and a narrative designer to begin solidifying the plot beats and themes for B&M. These folks are largely different from the SDJ and TGoGM crew so their work doesn't interfere with the progress of those projects

The original DachaBo concept hinted at some plot points but largely functioned similarly to Sleepy Time Jack, in that interactions gave out random dialogue from an array of pre-written lines. A previous post of ours asked you all what you wanted to see from a DachaBo reboot, and one of the more popular options was a proper "raising sim" style of game with a full storyline. This is a bit more involved than a standalone app, so we're in the midst of sorting out what themes and elements we want to take with us to a fully-fledged version of DachaBo.

It's the question that's on everyone's mind, isn't it? Our main audio drama writer, Oddity, has completed the first draft of a scene that'll introduce you all to the catboy, which we'll be working on editing and refining this week. So stay tuned for more, because we've got tons to share!
