Daniel Huitron

ayyyy. A great start to my saturday morning weekend.

bakugoat

“She a different kind of horny” 😭😭😭 she’s down real bad. 🤣

Daniel Huitron

I found this video on youtube that really explains the nature of Rudeus way of thinking. It's very true that he has very creepy thoughts, despicable even, yet that's how he was in his previous life. Our world, A grown shut in man who never had any goals or aspirations and get's off looking at inappropriate stuff. His story, Rudeus, as the video will tell you is about redemption. You are not supposed to like rudeus, he is scum, yes, but not a bad person. He needs growth, experience new things he's never experienced before in his previous life. I agree, this show has off putting moments that is hard to stomach. Anyways, here is the link to that video analysis. - https://youtu.be/3Yhac5ecr3I or the video is called "How Mushoku Tensei Succeeds Where Most Isekai Fail: The Case For Rudeus Greyrat"

Alex Rudnitsky

Remember what Eris dad, Phillip, says about head branch of Greyrat family? And his plans to revenge? There a lot of inner fight in a palace, and this disaster was an opportunity to behead whole competing branch. This world isn't fair and pretty complicated. Rudeus while scummy, but see's it pretty realistic, from EP5, when Eris was kidnapped, that was his waking call, not to risk much, think and survive.

Brian Wilson

Great discussion at the end. I can admit some of the themes that this show has can be a bit jarring to say the least. Its not something you often see in some anime but i think thats one of the things that makes me appreciate this show a lil bit.

Translated with Google translator Exactly! As you described. Mushoku Tensei is about Rudeu's development into an MC. I've only read the manga so far, but even there, like Rudeus, you're becoming more and more mature. It's hard to watch but once you get through the phase it gets better. Rudeus gets better than MC

Alex Rudnitsky

For a minors theme in discussion, this was a long ago, but they stated in this world you become adult at 15.

tacoloco

also there are alot of "ranks" to show you how strong someone is just like how roxy said she's a king class water mage this episode. This guy that they fought was a "saint" of the north god style. paul greyrat , rudy's father was only a advanced north god style( they mention this in the first half of this season) its a good indicator of how to know how strong someone is in the future when they state their ranks.

tacoloco

also the whole thing with rudy and that guy was supposed to be comedic that's why that adult kept calling him boss and big brother and stuff

Tristan

Creating a compelling character with flaws that are inherently unnerving to witness in full display is hard because most people wouldn't even consider watching Rudeus change and would drop the story as soon as he does some weird ish. He changes but believably and realistically based on who he was before Rudeus. His way of thinking is different culturally, ofc by Japanese standards, and him literally being isekai’d. While I’d argue it takes a lot more from Japanese culture, considering the one who wrote it is Japanese, there are medieval and typical fantasy elements, and that directly ties back into how Rudeus would react to such a world being the person he is. It’s interesting to see how things could unfold in this constantly developing world.

Cold_Cyber

the prison moment was meant to be comedic

KingRex0302

so I just noticed this lol when Ruijerd was about to kill that smuggler, they suddenly gave him his hair back, then in the next frame he's bald again 😂😂😂😂

Anonymous

Rudeus be letting his intrusive thoughts win.

Anonymous

if you think about it he was on the ship for a while so he couldn't shave, so he probably shaved after to not scare anyone.

KingRex0302

hmm thats true, we don't know the length of time passed. It just seemed like a production error from the moment Ruijerd took the mask off while in the jail to the next frame after killing the smuggler.

Killua X

there's another anime that u guys are reacting to right now that has a kind of similar uhh issue (steph will know what i'm talking about). not as much as this one, but still there. i thought of that as i watched this anime. nothing's perfect i guess. if u can manage to look past the 'shock value' stuff, there really is a gem underneath

Adept

I think for a lot of people its very hard to accept, that a main charakter is not likeable. You are not supposed to like rudeus and thats fine. I could write an essay on how complex the show really is and that rudeus behaviour isnt black and white but rather grey. However that would just be unnecessary, because i dont want to take your first experience away from by explaining stuff. Just take everything in, dont think to much about those "shocking moments" and try to see the bigger picture. Everything what happens has a reason for it, which you just dont see.

Camari Selvy

u gotta understand the message part was clearly for comedic reasons

Camari Selvy

i mean yea rudeus is just a person neither good nor bad hes still trying to figure things out especially when it comes to anything sexual all hes seen it from is games so in some ways hes still a child

Nardoc

When Rudeus said he's not the type of person to risk himself when children he doesn't know are in danger why did you act surprised? He only cares about kids he can have a chance to grope 😂

Nardoc

I agree with Mel. I think Rudy's a bad dude. He constantly puts his objectives before people's lives and if not for the people around him he would definitely do things like abandon those children. That's before you bring out how crazy perverted he is. Also it would be one thing if it was just a normal horny teenager which would still be pretty crazy to be this over the top but he's also mentally 40 or whatever.

brandon figueroa

I agree with both of you, some things are hard to digest with this show. Over all I try not to let it get to me too much since it’s a show and their customs back then with cousins and stuff were normal. For the most part yeah I decided to stick it through and watch it and I don’t regret it. Also nice discussion, I always love to see people talk about conflicting topics. Best way to grow as a person is to try to see the world through other people’s eyes too

Alex Rudnitsky

They forgo to added inner monologue from rudeus in this scene to reflect that, it was in a manga. But nice catch, anyways :D

Giyuu

Yeah but certain things just aren’t funny when using children… it’s just like that one skit Tiffany haddish did where she let a relative babysit her son and the guy kept looking at the son inappropriately while he watched him play and it was meant to be a joke/ notice about being carful who you leave your kids around but nobody found it funny it was weird and creepy she got a lawsuit filed against her

Brandon

I love y'all's discussion it's it's what I love watching y'all it's I just can't explain it y'all are just like I'm watching some with friends and something like that

Stiven Francisco Ventura

what i do most of the time is i cannot compare a anime with my values of this world when clearly in that world is very different so i try to give my opinion base on that world values so for now is like man you can found really f up thing rudeus still acting creepy but he change little by little i hope you can see and continue on season 2

StruckByBelz

love this comment so much ❤️ this is exactly what we aim for, just having a discussion with some friends!

Op

season 2 is really good

Dolfy

Steph was spitting facts at the end out of nowhere. Pure epicness more than the actual episode. Damn

Dolfy

Also I know it's late comment but I think everyone who is a fan of this show agrees 100% with Bel's points about the material this show has but what they don't agree with, and not saying you guys are suggesting this, is for that disturbing material to be omitted from this show (or w/e show) just because it's disturbing. Whether you see it as "shock value" or not isn't too important. Either way, we can agree that these things are real world things that happen and they are uncomfortable but if every show had to follow a list of things not to include then this art form would be a lot more same-y. That's part of why I think this show has a lot of popularity. It's not afraid to sprinkle in those creepy moments. Sometimes it can feel comedic and/or taken too lightly (as in not taken seriously for what it is) but I don't think it's ever to the point where they (the show writers) glorify/celebrate those acts as a good thing. I think Steph's speech at the end was something along those lines. That most of the acts were portrayed as a bad thing, that a bad guy (antagonist) was engaging in. I think we're all literally in agreement on that. I think the line that fans are unwilling to cross is that the show is wrong to have these moments. For me personally, it adds a bit of grittiness to the show. It feels rough in a way that makes you realize there is something under the surface. It adds depth to the world building compared to other show that focus on a main gimmick and maybe some supporting dynamics like relationships, family, conflict, etc. This show could have stopped there with that checklist but it takes the time to show you the ugly side of that world, never glorifying it, and tbf, it's not overdoing if we're being honest, just enough to remind you that the world can be an ugly place.
