If I remember right they didn’t even have leif and thorfin reunion in the manga. It just skips to the scene which everyone in the room by dudes bed

Authors explanation for not showing Leif and Thorfinn reunion - “I wanted to depict that, too. But a terrible incident (the abuse of Arnheid) happened just before the reunion, and they couldn’t be happy to see each other again, The author reassures fans they were very happy seeing each other after years.

If you go back to the conversation between Gardar and Arneid; after Gardar tells Arneid to say farewell he follows with " I'll be waiting here for you with the children". Maybe they're implying that her unborn child has passed?
