So I'm a professional tattoo artist of 4 years. I'm just now opening my own shop (humble brag). And I feel super sorry for Anthony, It sounds like his artist did not take Anthony's well-being into account. I've had some clients who have had severely low pain tolerances and severe social anxieties and there are ways to get through anything. However it sounds like he was left to suffer without being cared for throughout the process. That's not how it's supposed to go. I am diagnosed with autism and even I have learned how to interact and read my clients to make sure that I can take care of them. Artist of any experience past their apprenticeship have no excuse to forget or ignore bedside manner and pain management. I'm sorry your first tattoo experience was such a hell show. I wish you could have gotten in with someone who cared about your well-being and was like-minded .

Good rest, well hydrated and well fed. Bring a little snack lil m&Ms and water.dont be afraid to bring headphones to wear or ask them if they are willing to chat or let you tell them a story. Breathing is key, doing deep and controlled breaths go a long way. Do not hold your breath and make sure you don't tense up to much. It exhausts your muscles and makes a little more tender. Do not be afraid to ask them to make adjustments, if you're like me you wanna people please but it's on your body, it's your call. Also if you need a break take one, once again it's your body, it's your call. Stress balls are great, bringing one friend if the shop allows is wonderful. But don't bring a gaggle of people, it can add stress to the artist. Finally make sure to tip. And if you feel like that you would've paid more, tip what you would be willing to pay. Sometimes artist can extremely undervalue their work and if you feel like you're happy enough, the clearest ways to show that is 1-more money 2-more business 3-telling your friends Hope this helps ❤️
