The Dad Crew sits down to talk about episode 27 of season two including the way one joke can take over an episode and build out the world, Dark Normal's pride rant, and the line that Beth had to step out of character to deal with.

Plus they get into Gen Z slang and try to make up a phrase of their own, how five Matts would do in a fight against a chimpanzee, and favorite betrayals (which basically turns into favorite moments from Lord of the Rings).

Early Teen Talk?!!

Rebecca Thomas

Whoo-hooo! A Teen Talk posted early enough to be my dinner prep soundtrack 😁

Abigail Leach

You guys killed it with this episode, so much creativity, one liners. Start to finish it was a blast!

Purpsikins

Teeny saying “I’m going to do this forever” is just BURNED into my brain

DeviantRabbits

Oooooh, released during my shift? Don't mind if I do ~

JakeFrostick

I loved the hell episode particularly The sound editing and Satan Peter. Also if theres a slang term to bring be we need bonkers2023

Hydro

Satan should wear a Santa outfit 😂

Pamphleteer

Very funny that Anthony said Home For Infinite Losers (HFIL) and Will heard it as Home for InFinite Losers (HIFL)

Andre Souza

I dont think season 2 is bad by any means, but this was the episode that fully got me on board

Mel Bee

i feel like we gotta give more love for the normal/hermie stuff this week - as a kid who was weird and closeted in high school, it is so important to me to see this weird dynamic represented

Sarah H

My mind was blown when I found out that "rizz" (think, he's got the rizz) was just short for charisma.

Rowan Deen

Gonna start saying things are medical and and brains to my parents because theres nothing funnier than deploying slang theyve never heard of like its completely casual

Purpsikins

According to The District Bulletins on Something Awful, Swimp is the the Sweet Cookie Bear who lives in the Moon. Be sure to holler for a Superior should you see Dorroile, the most horrible man.

Mikaylee W.

favorite ick I’ve heard “imagining him jumping on a trampoline”.

Kaleb Phillips

Are we not able to download episodes anymore?

FusRohNahSon

Will rallying the fanbasw to use their new slang is the same energy as henry making Rocks Rock without the talent or efforr

FusRohNahSon

To "chomp" there is already "a munch" which is a guy that is basically a lame player only going after booty

Vampire the Assquerade

SUS WAS NOT FROM AMONGUS. it meant suspicious or suspect and usually aimed at something that was sort of gay

Aurie Dear

The ick is when you don’t really like someone and they kind of do the final thing to turn you off. So if you already weren’t into someone then holding their fork wrong or wearing an ugly hat is like your final straw.

Aurie Dear

Also sus was also AAVE! People just thought we were referring to Among Us and then that became the new term. “Sus” stood for suspect which normally just meant someone who was two faced.

Ilana Galpert

I imagine Scam like the original uncle fester meets GOT Varys, only with the smuggest shit eating grin

Racing for Tips

I've been casually pitching rated as slang. There's underrated, overrated, and now, rated. Sometimes people popularly think a thing is good, and they're right, and that thing is rated. Mazda Miata? Rated. Nintendo switch? Rated.

Nyah Wilson

No idea why but in my head Scam Likely is a giant owl

PAWGliacci

So this really was just the "talk over and cut off Freddie" episode huh lmao Got kind of frustrating hearing Freddie try to start the same sentence like 5 times.

Matthew Morse

As a gen z this was exceptionally funny to listen to you guys analyze current slang

Jubilee

Disappointed that Anthony didn’t bring up MJF popularising mid.

Echo Shmecho

Only ever seen "grippy socks vacation" used by people with several mental illnesses

Jubilee

I pretty much always imagine scam likely as magic man from adventure time

Jack Hill

I always pictured scam likely to look kinda like the mayor from nightmare before christmas

uncanny danny

this teen talk was mid

Tymme Zinni

It's funny that Matt's idea of Scam Likely is a Futurama reference when my thought was a version of Glurmo (the tour guide from Fry and the Slurm Factory).

Reilly Gillis

Gen z didn't love Amazon primes "the tick" enough to keep it from being FUCKING CANCELED. my absolute favorite show in recent memory, and they canceled it after two season. It's fucking tragic.

Tony Woodward

Augh, chuegy was made up by Buzzfeed! Gen Z kids got paid to spread it on TikTok for "Generation Warfare" purposes and instead they exposed Buzzfeed. It was a whole thing.

Alex

I personally liked this episode way more than the previous one.

jeb

BETHHH yaa NISSIN BRAND TONKOTSU RAMEN best instant ramen out there, all their flavors especially the black garlic . Usually 70c at Chinese grocery they have the little blond boy on the package 🍜🍜🍜🍜

Cosmo Calloway

I didn't know spoopy was a thing. I use that all the time but I got it from mbmbam I think. an older episode too. Does it mean spooky? Cuz that's how I use it

Cosmo Calloway

I always imagined scam likely as a fairy from fairly odd parents or that flying green frog creature from the rayman games. Wait does scam fly? Why do I think he flys? Ooh you know what! Mxyzptlk!

Cosmo Calloway

Oh and for Darrly, I always pictured the dad from big city greens. They kinda sound similar too

Baggin_Black42

I love listen to older people trying to connect and understand the younger generation speech. That is how you properly use the word bussy grandpa good on you. ( all a joke. Love you guys this teen talk was a solid sode.)

Marie Blanchet

Days since Anthony said “eh it was an okay episode” about one of the best episodes of the season: 0

Ficus Mans Forge

Dads trying to make a meme and make it popular....... yep subscribed to the right podcast

streetdreams

I always just saw it as Gollum going "Oh no!!" because he was burning to death and in pain, pfffr

Phi Oglesby

Link definitely shows some autistic traits but not nearly as many Normal. The fact that he can't tell that nobody liked his teeny the teen and especially the backstory of him falling on his face as a little kid on purpose. He can tell that people are laughing but not the social cues that they are laughing at him, which is unfortunately exactly what it's like to grow up with autism

ace of diamonds

I see scan likely as Koro-sensei from assassination classroom

Donovan Arnold

Gotta say I always pictured Scam Likely as a skinny, long-necked, cartoon (Roger Rabbit style) duck person dressed in a carnival outfit.

Lisa, Professional dumb ass

I always imagined Scam as a big turtle on two legs, mainly cuz he's related to the Library who I just also imagined as a big turtle but with the books on his back

Olivia sutherland

Can’t believe no one mentioned “ribbed for your suffering” as a favorite

maddo

Ok I doubt anyone will read this much less the players but this was my defense of the word “spoopy” In college a woc friend of mine pointed out that “spook” came from a racialize slur from long ago so for a while I spent a lot of time conscientiously using replacement words every time I meant “spook” or “spooky.” Eventually I learned that the linguistic origin isn’t racist but I still personally use spoopy because I like to be annoying

Grizz Lee

I always imagined Scam Likely as Choose Goose from Adventure Time.

Anna Levinson

Omg I forget you guys are old❤️

Jophis

It’s not technically ramen, but IndoMie rules

Kevan Salisbury

Brain = 90s hip hop slang for a blowjob. Not just hanging brain, but also getting brain. See also, Black Rob "Whoa". But I love the repurposing.

Casey Francis Alger

"Swimp" i.e. Sam Waterson's depiction of Nick Caraway in the 70's adaptation of The Great Gatsby

Kimberly Oberklaus

I don't let my kids say "shut up" to anyone in the house, but literally anything else is a go 😂🤣

I've always imagine Scam Likely as Mr Meeseeks from Rick & Morty. Just a simple, chaotic dude

Devox

I pictured Scam Likely as something similar to Ice King from Adventure time

Morgan

The most beautifully cringe episode of dad talk or teen talk 😅😅😅

Lazaretto

I pictured Scam Likely like a Merlin type of guy lmao

Luke

i was hoping way too hard for a shin ramen shoutout at the end of this episode, that’s my top media betrayal

John

The brand is actually Nongshim, and their Tonkotsu line is fine. But Shin Ramyun and Shin Black are top-tier.

Anonymous

I described this to one of my friends and he said "why do you put yourself through these things"

Lollie Roberts

While I get what Will was going for with 'brains' I will say that phrases 'big brained' 'galaxy brain' and 'Your brain. Huge.' are in fact already popular slang. I would assume it was popularised by a meme template a couple years back

Invader Jimm

I think 4 or more Matt's trapped in a room with a Chimp probably win. 3 if they get lucky, anything less gets their faces ripped off.

Invader Jimm

Oh my god the Toy Story 3 moment made me cry. Just seeing their acceptance killed me!

mateo P

Absolutely brutal to listen to yall butcher gen z terms

mateo P

Based just means that you think their opinion is good omg i have to skip this

TyPhoon

I love it when other Gen Zs are uncomfortable with the butchering of slang. As I am uncomfortable with slang in general. Feel my pain.

Fearne Pérez

I picture a giant banana slug

Alexandra Grilli

I did try to "that's so books" today with my students and it felt very natural.

Dragons Blood

Really hoping that they plan on not blue balling us with 68.5 and that they reach that nice nice 69 episode mark.

renaeisgae

I think it's funny that like half the gen z terms they talked about aren't ones anyone uses

renaeisgae

Also, Anthony's "wanna make out?" when he was being Link sent me

Ashley

Ok no I love grippy sock vacation I’m not sorry 💀 lowkey the gen z slander in this one is sending me

Tom!

Is based the opposite of debased?

Tom!

If you go back through the history of the English language, words get widespread adoption when they are adopted (or created!) by young women — basically teen to twenties. It was always a patriarchal society, but cool has always been determined by young ladies. I suspect this is true in other languages and maybe even for other primates. In-group signaling is obviously crucial for mating, and that’s just what slang is for on the most basic level. If Beth had said swimp, they’d’ve loved it. Sorry Freddie!

Michael

Ouch, I'm only(?) in my 30s but all that Gen Z slang made me feel painfully old 🥲

Joris Kemel

The British sitcom Coupling has a few episodes referring to one character owning a library of videos to remember his Body Count.

Spinnaker

Tonks for this podcast!

Anna Deason

Me as a Gen Z-er not knowing HALF of the shit being said in the “gen z slang” section, holy shit. Guess that’s what I get for not being on tiktok? And yeah, whenever people say “gen z slang” or “internet slang,” it’s 95% of the time just appropriated AAVE lmfaooooo. “No cap,” “bussin,” “fire,” etc. etc. etc.)

Dave Curriston

Did anybody else feel like Scary was coming from a place like: "oops I fucked up, but im too proud to apologize for real to you men"

Frankie Franco

Scam Likely is Azul from Barbie as the island princess

Christian A.

Question for the group, does George killing Lennie in Of Mice and Men qualify as a betrayal?

Chris

Didn't know that. it certainly popularized it though. It always bothered me but then once you play your first among us game you're like 'oh, yeah, what am I going to keep saying 'suspicious'?'

Jed

Hope Will finds out that “Brains” already has a sexual connotation lol

Quantum OFZENTRIX

George almost certainly feels like he betrays Lennie, but I don't know if Lennie would think of it that way

Joe Tenschert

I just realized, for some reason Scam has always kinda looked Dr. Robotnik 🤣🤣🤷‍♂️

Chequavia Dallis

I picture Scam Likely as Him, the devil guy from The Powerpuff Girls
