So last week for the special Halloween version I had a "branding image" / "cover image" / "logo" / whateveryouwanttocallit, something I've been doing for Beta releases for a while now to essentially represent the release visually. I really like the final choice, which you can see again below with its pretty red theme and "Abomination" (Troll) centerpiece:

And normally I only ever have one version of a beta logo, since the core idea will come to me pretty easily, but I had a little more trouble with this release and was going back and forth between a number of possibilities.

At first I wanted to give an idea of the variety in this event--lots of new bots out there! Lots more mechanics! I had some ideas for how to show it, but they wouldn't make good logos, per se, because one of the important factors of a good logo is that is also looks good and does its job at smaller sizes.

Trying to represent variety visually implies showing lots of stuff, and showing lots of stuff means making individual things really small... you can see where this is going--lots of small stuff made even smaller by appearing in a resized logo just isn't going to cut it :P

So anyway, the main image for this post was one of the alternates I didn't use, a collection of maps showing variety through 1) their map color and 2) lots of Anomaly and Abomination labels. It looks decent at very large sizes, but when small it's got a ton of essentially wasted space, not to mention there aren't any pictures, which is kinda unfortunate!

Fortunately Kacper's Troll tile looks really cool and can stand on its own as a centerpiece, and when blown up like that is even quite visible at small sizes, benefiting from the fact that it was intended to be viewed tiny in the first place (gotta love the advantages of having small minimalist tiles :D--we used the same approach for POLYBOT-7, starting with 12x12 tiles even though the game's base tile size was 36x36).
