Time for an early (early early) prerelease. Normally I'd do a so-called "prerelease" within a few days to a week before an official release, but this time is different because Beta 9 has an especially long dev cycle. There's simply too much to do that I don't want to separate out into different releases, specifically the new scoresheets and leaderboards, but doing them together (along with all the other stuff a release needs) is rather time-consuming xD

So I may as well let all you patrons play around with this mid-dev Beta 9 version. As usual you can check the changelog for what's included, some of the biggest highlights being:

  • upgradeable RIF
  • highly-detailed scoresheets
  • a number of balance tweaks

I've done a few runs and it seems as stable as a regular release, although there might be new little bugs here and there, especially with the history log and/or scoresheet which will require a lot of playtesting before they can be confirmed in perfect shape. I haven't yet fixed most of the bugs found in Beta 8, either (nothing major, just mentioning that those things are still out there until I get around to the dedicated bug-fixing round for Beta 9).

On Steam, Beta 9 X1 is located on the new beta branch "beta9wizardrytest," or if you don't have Steam and need the DRM-free version, send me an email at gridsagegames@gmail.com.

For Steam players, remember that if you switch to the new branch to play, and then later back to an old/main branch to play again, you may lose some newer Beta 9 meta data that doesn't apply in an older version.

Saves from this version won't be compatible with the official release, or possibly even X2 if/when I do an update to the prerelease (though meta data will as usual carry over from prerelease to official). If there are any bugs found specifically with the new stuff I'll be doing more prereleases later.

Note for Wizards: Wizard mode does not yet work in this version. I'll be releasing that update at a later time, along with some new wizard features.

Right now I often interrupt the run and take my time to read through dumped sheets. That really increases the interactive feeling of the game. Ah, fun! By the way, most items are obvious, but I'm not exactly sure what 'Peak Tracking Total' and 'Tactical Retreats' indicate despite their attractive labels. Do you plan to write any document about scoresheet eventually?

It's nice to not have to end a run to get all the data :D No plans for anything more than a blog post like what I wrote here earlier on Patreon, certainly not an entry-by-entry breakdown because that's too much and most are self-explanatory. You can always just ask! Tracking is just robots tracking you, and retreats are times that you were being tracked but then lost your pursuers.
