February Pin-up - Barry Burton (Patreon)

 Yesss, this piece was super cool to do because there's a lot of themes I actually like drawing, but almost never have the possibility to explore!  More SAI2 shenanigans on this one, so let's break it down ye

> Some thumbs... I opted for the tilted one, it has dutch angle energy that I learned to use doing whenever it rains lol!!

>Worked out a structure for him over the thumbnail, I've been trying stuff with perspective rulers and they do help a lot!!! Wanted Barry rocking that dad bod

> Refining details, putting clothes over him!

> Looked up reference for his weapon in the game, the colt python!! Magnum revolvers are so chonky?? I think I'll have to study more how these work to draw them better, tho I do like  to make them look fun. Also head! Receding hairline and cute crooked nose!

> Did the foreground elements first. Testing new line weights as well <:

> Just studying a bit how I'd separate the values...

>Flats!!! I added an art piece present in the game!

>Another thing that is like making me consider lots of new possibilities................... is having symmetry functions, it  REALLY helps with making ornaments!! I did a pattern with my usual method, but used the symmetry to create the elements. 

 I used it as the wallpaper for this piece!

>Finished the BG first! as the painting is less detailed, it also helps me figuring out how I'll work the character

>First hardshadows shadows!

>This time I recorded the hard shadow accents as well! Love doing this step, it's what makes things pop.

> Here's Barry with just hard shadows. Notice how in the finished one the presence of smoother shading in certain areas creates different perception of volume

>OF COURSE I'd have an excuse to play with the game's UI RIGHT the health indicator is so cute
