Enjoy, lovely people! I'm off to see The Last Jedi tonight and I'm so excited! (I'm also having a terrible hair day, which may make fancy hair-doing a bit of a problem. Hmph.)

Star Trek plays Star Wars: Kirk naturally plays Han Solo - adventuring rogue, good with women, what's not to like? Spock plays Leia, as she is the most logical and level-headed of the three. Bones plays Luke Skywalker, because he wants to be the hero and lead character once in his life.

The My Little Pony cast plays Harry Potter. First the two obvious: Twilight Sparkle plays Hermione. Bookish, smart, an awesome witch but still manages to find a way to feel like the awkward outsider. Spike GMs, because of course he does. Rainbow Dash plays dashing hero, perfect flyer, chosen of destiny Harry, but maybe overdoses on melodrama when describing his HORRIBLE childhood. Applejack plays common-as-muck but honest-and-true Ron, but sometimes loses sight of his noble traits when it's time to compete for the hero spot with Rainbow. Rarity lends into some dream-fulfillment with playing pureblooded, upperclass Luna, but has a lot of fun with describing her outfits. "And when I show up to the game, guess what I wear? No, you will NEVER be able to guess. My hat is shaped as a LION. Which ROARS!" The timid Fluttershy plays the timid Nevile, but it is obviously a novel character and not based on herself because he is into PLANTS not ANIMALS. Pinkie Pie plays Ginny, which leads to her character being idle most of the time while Pinkie pronks around being distracted by anything and everything, but sometimes there are bursts of astonishing character competence as Pinke manages to focus on the plot at hand. Maybe there is also some wishfullfilment in her character's family situation. "And I have six older siblings who love me, and my parents completely understand me and my chosen career path..."

I know so many sprawling fantasy books with tons of characters and yet can think of nothing. Maybe this just works better for TV shows?

I don't read a lot of fantasy books, so I thought that was why it gave me trouble. Possibly it's just easier with TV because it's a more visual medium?
