Plz mr Plinkett ok?

Peter Varga

great!! thanks! ^^

Conor

You know what? Fuck movies.

Anonymous

Thanks guys! The last one ended on a cliffhanger and I've been holding my breath ever since. I've been dead for a week!

Anonymous

No, you would have to put MegaBoa in two theaters to say "In theaters". If they only ran it in one theater, it would has to say, "In Theater"

Lisa

"Oh, Plinkett...won't see him no more."

Anonymous

So glad you talked about The Empty Man!

Anonymous

I feel like I’m the only person that thought French Dispatch was a masterpiece. It was my top movie before Tragedy of MacBeth and Pig. But i also dislike a large majority of the other Wes Anderson movies I’ve seen, lol

Joshua Mannix

On the topic of AppleTV+, if you ever feel like watching an animated movie, I highly recommend Wolfwalkers. Some of the best hand drawn animation I've ever seen.

Anonymous

I highly recommend MacGruber on Peacock and Reservation Dogs on Hulu.

Manuel Johnen

Credit where it's due (I guess), "Megaboa" doesn't look like the WORST giant snake movie I've ever seen... those vfx in the trailer look at least halfway competent...

Bill Wilson

That Night House review... A masterpiece.

schopi

Looking forward to your thoughts on The Empty Man and Titane, really liked them both. I foresee a negative review of the French Dispatch, lol. I loved it, but I can't help it, I just love Wes Anderson's style. And should you read this, really guys, do yourselves the favour and watch Violation (my favourite of 2021) and The Green Knight. I remember you guys loving Lowery's A Ghost Story, and Green Knight is (almost) as good.

Anonymous

The editing of this episode was really funny and when Mike's voice got deep during the night house bit I cracked up quality 2021 rap up episodes

Anonymous

Thank you for your work.

Hawkeye was actually fun.

Peter Varga

I'd like to recommend the show "The Great" (with Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult). it is genuinely my favorite in recent years.

Peter Varga

it was a visual feast. you could pause any frame and admire it for hours. the middle part got a bit boring though. My fav WA movie is Moonrise Kingdom btw.

Peter Varga

yes! I expected to see The Green Knight in these catchups. especially since they both really liked A Ghost Story. TGK is also extremely good, although I appreciated it more on second viewing actually.

Manuel Johnen

For less vague and artsy car fucking, check out Ridley Scott's "The Counselor" from 2013...

Let's play Funny/Not Funny!!! BBC Ghosts? FUNNY!! CBS Ghosts? NOT FUNNY!! Actually, I wouldn't know about the CBS production of it because I never bothered watching it. The commercials were enough to make me wince. But seriously, did I just watch an RLM video that referenced Wonder Showzen, Tim and Eric's Bedtime Stories, and Kids in the Hall? Add Strangers With Candy and these are basically the funniest TV shows in existence. I second that Titane is worth the watch. I was entranced with it the whole watch. Also, while I haven't seen False Positive, my opinion why it probably fell flat is because Vernon Chatman wasn't involved. He's the superbly demented genius behind Wonder Showzen, The Heart, She Holler (starring Patton Oswalt) and other PFFR productions. Thanks for the video guys! You brought a pep in my step. (stay away from those toe snips)

Can't wait for part 3 of 2!

Marvin Falz

The transition from map to car on street in The Empty Man looks really good. The "Scavenger hunt for the soul" joke made me laugh. I need to watch more Cronenberg. Crash sounds interesting, and it reminds me of Videodrome, which I liked very much.

Michael Parker

Hooray! You two talked about almost all the 2021 movies I've seen that I was most interested to hear your thoughts on! -I'm glad to have seen some more love for The French Dispatch in the comments. It was my favorite movie of the year until I finally watched Pig. I've become a real mark for Wes Anderson's movies. Still not sick of his schtick. - A Quiet Place 2 was my first movie back at the theater and I actually liked it better than the first movie, which I didn't love as much as most other people did. Apparently the director of Pig is potentially going to direct a movie in the "A Quiet Place universe" or something. It's become groan-inducing to see promising indie filmmakers get swooped up to direct franchise movie, but in this case it might actually be a good fit. - The Night House was my favorite horror film of last year. So I'm glad even Mike appreciated it despite falling asleep. Titane is in second place. I had a feeling Jay would appreciate Titane. That screamed "Jay Bauman movie" to me.

Michael Parker

These two seem pretty done with all things MCU. I wonder if this year we'll at least get a HitB video talking about Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness since Sam Raimi is directing it now.

Manuel Johnen

Now that I've finally seen it, I've got to give a shoutout to "Nobody"... funnest action flick in quite some time. Not an ounce of fat on that thing.

Anonymous

thanks Jay you creep i knew Titane would be on your list. I loved the themes of identity, rebirth, the balance of fear and desire inherent in letting yourself being known by someone... and the way ducournau handles the theme of trans/queer self-discovery but avoids trying to tell a straightforward trans exploitation horror story - for obvious reasons of like, decency and empathy (yes there's decency and taste in the movie with "the woman fucking the car")

M.Night is trying to “own” his perceived lousyness by intentionally trying to make self-aware so-bad-it’s-good schlock, calling it rn. All the weird line readings and choices are now “intentional” bc if they weren’t, he’s not the storytelling visionary in total control of his craft his ego demands. His new output retcons his past movies as “intentionally bad” so he can, what, have the last laugh on the critics I guess? Idk, seems ego-driven, but the real question is are they entertaining? Maybe?? Bc they ain’t art, that’s for sure

Manuel Johnen

Probably not as tastefully handled as the main theme of "Raw", which was "Women are fucking insane, and they need some kind of sausage inside of them"...

Glenn Ponka

You want Wes Anderson to make a Marvel movie? Here's what his X-Men would look like. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UngE0qn3VRY

Cheers for bringing up The Empty Man! Watched it during October for Halloween this year and was flabbergasted I'd never heard a peep on it. I thoroughly enjoyed the ambition it had, just wish I had more people to recommend it to since it's a bit of a hard sell.

Anonymous

I was hoping you guys saw another great A24 film this year “The Green Knight” which I thought was greatttt, considering it’s David Lowery who you praised for A Ghost Story. Also, please do a Re:View on the criminally underrated and forgotten “The Way of the Gun” and give it its due praise 🙌🏻 I’d so love to see that film get propped up in popularity.

Amy L Jones

Glad Jay liked Titane. I thought it was amazing. I saw it in the theater which always helps, especially when the cinematography is as fine as that. Mike should watch it. I think he'd like it.

Ian Stewart

Why didn't Jay talk about Chucky?! Now 2021 is ruined.

Anonymous

I WATCHED IT AND I CLAPPED.

Anonymous

Hilarious as always. Thank you so much. I'm looking forward to Titane, Old, Ghosts and The Night House. Love you guys

Funny That

...or what could have happened had Wes Anderson ended up with the First Class prequel/reboot. Good post. Have to say though that with The French dispatch seemed to have a lot of composite shots and rear projection/green screen. Nothing on the scale of a Marvel movie, but there are a lot of shots where you are not sure where the physical location stops and practical effects kick-in. Something like the accountant being arrested seemed to have a background that was a forced perspective model, with a miniature police car coming from the background never passing half-way down the screen. Could be that Anderson is working his way towards a Marvel movie, as long as he can lean on stop-motion instead of CGI.

run_away

Mumbling about Old spoilers since I don't see that anyone's done it above. I haven't seen the movie but did read the comic. It seems like what people like about the movie is the medical stuff. Not present in the comic. One guy has dementia, which I've heard is changed to schizophrenia in the movie, but as far as I remember that's it. When people leave the island they are actively shot at and murdered, rather than a fade to black. The black dude is a sudanese (I think) refugee who is a jeweler rather than a rapper. Don't know how the ends but the comic ends with the baby born from the girl, who is now an old woman, building a sand castle. It's not a thriller or a mystery. Depressing art comic. Thanks.

let's go!

Katy

I tapped out of the MCU at guardians of the Galaxy, but pretty much enjoyed Loki and WandaVision. I guess if I had been assaulted with Marvel movies over the past 10 years, I’d be done with them at this point too. No excuse for not getting into Boba Fett, though. The first episode was trash but I’m really loving the show now.

Anonymous

This might be the darkest episode of HITB...

Rhea

Mike why don't you just lay down and I'll make you some soup and it'll be okay. I love when you guys talk about Tim and Eric shit, they're the best. I went to one of their live specials once and it was the most awkward night of my life. Still need to watch Titane. The Night House was good (it's a DEPRESSION allegory). I fell asleep for a bit during the Timothee Chalamet part of the French Dispatch but I liked it. Oh gosh and I adored The Empty Man. I thought it was worth every minute of it's run time and that didn't detract from it at all. Thanks for talking about it Jay.

"I watched the diahorrea episode, it was good"

Marvin Falz

Btw., when Red Letter Media wants to leave YouTube, I'll gladly follow to another platform.

Love the nod to Kids in the Hall, that show always kept us warm in the long Canadian winters.

Bort Ward

Is Bruce Willis replacing Cameron Mitchell? (Yes, I know it's over done, but it REALLY feels like this is how his career is now.)

Beez

Hadn't watched most of the movies but did jump to the time stamp to look to see what yall had to say about the box office juggernaut No Way Home Enjoyed the deep takes like: I haven't watched any of the new Spider-Man movies. What a stupid naming scheme.

Anonymous

Loved the Kids in the Hall car fuckers joke lol grew up with that show in Canada and still love it.

The Thinking Cat...Former Cthulhu Pofit Neo Normie and Masked fat guy but now a Cat ??

One of the few times I disagree with you guys I love the book of Boba Fett it's actually better then the Mandalorian in many ways and really the stuff about escaping the sarlac Pit and the Tuskans I wish that was the entire show as it's like A man called horse meets Lawrence of Arabia and I love it, basically it's like Dune minus the pretentious bullshit.

Anonymous

I’m through with Marvel until Guardians Vol. 3. Nothing else on the schedule interests me AT ALL.

Anonymous

Mike talking about Tim & Eric when I've always compared them to Mike & Jay 👀👀👀👀

Mike St Louis

Spot on about The Shrink Next Door. Should have been 3 episodes tops. What a waste of time. The pilot seemed promising.

Anonymous

I’m waiting for them to remake the ruins so I can say the ruins is ruined

David S

I watched Old because the premise intrigued me, but the acting and dialogue was something else. Good discussion on it.

DonMac

I've seen all the MCU movies and think the new Spider-Man movie is the best MCU movie since... the previous Spider-Man movie.

Jeremy Ross

It was good and all, but I get why Mike and Jay have superhero movie fatigue. My favourite scene honestly was the three Spider-Men doing nerd shit including the discussion of their web shooting. The movie worked for me since I have a bit of nostalgia for the Maguire trilogy (nobody has nostalgia for the Garfield movies; though seeing him in this drives home the fact that the shittiness of those movies wasn't his fault,) but I'm curious if the movie works for somebody without that nostalgia.

Thanks for the Ghosts recommendation! It's my and my daughter's new show.
