Half in the Bag: Demonic

Mike and Jay watch Nelly Bloomcramp's new film "Demonic" about a lady who uses some kind of motion capture rig to talk to her demon-possessed mother in a coma. Mike continues with his new scheme to steal Mr. Plinkett's blood in a much more compelling story.

Thank you for your work.

I guess work can wait 43 minutes.

Thanks for your sacrifice

Kim Luu

Oh my god dropping the 😷 to say what almost killed me.

I mean... WHY? Why didn't he expand on some of those little shorts ideas he published on Youtube a while ago? Some of them were fuckin' awesome (potentially), like that The Thing-ish monster in the lab with all the limbs. Geez, it's aggravating as fuck.

Manuel Johnen

"Zygote"...? I thought that sucked. What was there to it except a cool looking creature that we've already seen? Nothing to expand upon storywise... :/

Michael Parker

That thumbnail has got me excited for some good roasting.

Tarami Bedona

The snippets of Blumkamp doing interviews with amateur internet podcasts kind of broke my heart. Ol' Shatner definitely has a point.

Manuel Johnen

Mike... the word is "comatose", not "comatic"... :P

AshesBoomstick

Thank you, RLM, for your sacrifice on watching DEMONIC.

Michael Parker

"I never want to see another demonic possession movie for the rest of my fucking life." I feel that, Jay.

Michael Parker

I've brought this up before, but I finally watched In the Earth by British director Ben Wheatley, which is also a low budget genre film thrown together during the pandemic and I'd be curious to see them discuss that in comparison to this. That movie was just filmed in the woods, which I know is something they often mock on Best of the Worst.

Michael Parker

So if Mike and Jay are only reviewing movies that aren't just in the theaters then I can only assume the next HitB will be for James Wans "Malignant." That's also a bright side I suppose to Dune also being on HBO Max is we'll likely get a Dune HitB.

Peter Varga

I liked the atmosphere of In the Earth but it just didn't give me much altogether. still better than his Field in England... (I really liked the Kill List though)

Peter Varga

Jay you should check out "Brand New Cherry Flavor" on Netflix! it's pretty good too! has a kind of a Neon Demon meets Santa Clarita Diet vibe. it gets pretty disturbing at times but it never takes itself too seriously, which makes it entertaining all the way.

I recently watched a few Joseph Kuo movies from the late 70s, and I think he's done a good job directing, but he didn't know how to write a good story. But at least his movies are entertaining. And they often have a woman in a leading role, usually the same woman, Kuo had his staple of actors. His movies would be movies I recommend, when you're into martial arts movies set somewhere in between the 1700s and 1900s in China.

Carly and Sam? if they could have just found an actor named Freddy to play the guy friend, one could say it takes place in the iCarly universe.

Anonymous

So, Carly Pope is basically "discount Noomi Rapace." Also, "holy lance" is another term for the Spear of Longinus, supposedly the spear used to stab Christ after he was crucified to make sure he was dead. The term "Spear of Longinus" has been used in so many movies and tv shows that audiences would more easily recognize that term than "holy lance." It's like asking "Could you pass me the sodium chloride?" when you meant to say "Can you pass me the salt?"

That "Covid schtick" is highly relevant to the Okanagan region right now!!!

Anonymous

I am from the Okanagan and I am somewhat baffled by the "Okanagan Police" decals. The Okanagan is a region, not like a large city with its own police force. They must have made those decals for the movie? Which is just strange.

andrew

Jay’s hair is possessed. I could stop watching it bounce around.

As soon as they started showing clips from the movie and I saw all these actors from what I call "the Vancouver stable" I knew this had to be a BC production - these guys all show up in the Stargate shows, Continuum, X-Files, Battlestar Galactica, CW DC superhero shows, Man of Steel, etc

Anonymous

Mr. Plinkett looks like he's about to be bet on in a game for the Money Plane.

Anonymous

THE Covid shtick was tired a year ago. But semi-transparent paper masks with literal holes in them are still flying off the shelves and into the most embarrassing chapter in human history, so...

Anonymous

Glad to see more content out. Know what I will be watching today

Anonymous

I was thinking the same thing. "Good to see BSG actors still making money."

Anonymous

Now I want to see a movie with Roomie Nepace, Nooooooewt, and Ernest Borg-not.

That was a fun info dump about sanatoriums Mike. Maybe they should reopen some of those. Neill Blomkamp is someone I’m still rooting for because, like you guys said, he’s got some interesting ideas and he’s actually trying to do something that isn’t pulled directly from an existing IP. Kind of like Shyamalan (excluding the Last Airbender). Then again there are people with original ideas who actually don’t drop the ball in the execution so, I dunno. Whatever. Nothing matters. Oh also Mike's reaction to Relic being mentioned like honestly same what a good fucking movie.

If you like Brand New Cherry Flavor, you should check out Channel Zero. Seasons 2-4 are very similar.

Sam

I was waiting for “It’s like that episode of Star Trek the Next Generation where Troi goes inside her mother’s dreams...” But I think Mike had hit his Jay-imposed TNG reference quota by that point.

Shempin Jack Flash

“By interesting you mean……bad.” This was a spittake 😹 A request: can you please put a big thumbs up or down so I know whether to watch the reviewed film first? I watched Demonic last night before watching this and agreed. Awful. And the sharp turn of the researchers into some kind of Priest SWAT team was absurdly hilarious.

Anonymous

Man wish the film kept the catholic swat priests longer haha. Great video as always! I hope you cover Old 2021. I saw the film and I have very mixed feelings about it. Would be curious on RLM’s take

My doctor says my dopamine levels are too high. Well…he’s not really a doctor. More like a veterinarian. He’s also my cousin. Or something. Great review, though!!

wait a minute. just realized no AHS discussion

Anonymous

VERY COOL!

Anonymous

almost as if that's going to be an extra video, like they already did in the past

Anonymous

I was finally able to watch this episode and how dare Jay insult The Sims like this…

Anonymous

I loved your guys intro for this one

The "Holy Lance"? Was I the only one who thought of the Holy Hand Grenade (of Antioch) after hearing that?
