Half in the Bag: The Assistant and The Wrong Missy

Mike and Jay finally return to work to talk about two movies that didn't have their release dates pushed back a year: The Assistant, a tense and slow drama about workplace harassment, and The Wrong Missy, a tense and slow drama about workplace harassment.

I watched The Wrong Missy in anticipation of this video and fuck, why did I do that?

Jessie Zimmer

Watching right now. So glad to see you finally escaped Mr. Plinkett's house! Thanks so much for keeping us entertained "during these trying times". Y'all are seriously the best.

I am so happy that you guys talked about The Assistant! It was a very slow and creepy. I had a friend invite me to watch this because noone else wanted to go. It made me so uneasy and painted a really good picture and the reviews reflect just how society thinks of these actions. The other missy on the other hand...Fuck that hot piece of garbage!~ I will not let it sit in my brain and take up space

No! You spoiled Ozarks for me! Damn you RLM, DAMN YOU!

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

The worst thing about this quarantine has to be the loss of Rich Evans. I can deal with economic loss. I can deal with loss of life. I can't deal with loss of Rich Evans.

Is Rich Evans alive or is this a Peter Cushing in Rogue One situation?

Tony P.

Haven't you heard? Most of us saw him in the background of Julia Roberts' zoom session with Fauci. If my memory serves, Rich was wearing assless chaps, studded collar and a sleeveless shirt which showcased Rich's shredded pipes! As a matter of fact, Ms. Roberts has never looked so happy! Do not worry my friend, she'll release him back into the wild soon!

Welcome back in front of the camera, Rich!

You reviewed The Wrong Missy... will you review GUNS AKIMBO????

CarSVernon .

they should review The Vast of Night

Adam Sandler must be wondering when you guys will finally talk about Uncut Gems so something he is involved in could get some praise from RLM.

Poo In An Alleyway

Excellent. Are you guys planning on maybe reviewing Blood Machines?

What's with the comical $ bag on the desk? Also, guides on Ghost Hunting and VCR Repair, lol.

Nice to see a new HitB near my birthday. I assume "The Wrong Missy" was released because deep down inside Adam Sandler loves money and hates his audience. That's why he looks so sad in recent photos. He has to star in the dumbest films to appease a lowest common denominator of fans. That has to, on some level, crush your soul. So he makes these films to go on vacation and give his friends and sycophants a pay day. But deep down he knows what a hack fraud he is. He can do more films like "Uncut Gems" but as RLM said people will figure out he's good in only a certain type of role and his audience will eventually leave him if he tries something different.

Jessie Zimmer

The books have been around for a while. I'm assuming the money bag is related to product placement they mentioned (and all the money that was wasted on that, and movies that got cancelled.)

I've never heard Nick SWARD-SON's name be mispronounced so hilariously, it was kinda impressive. He was a decent comedian back in the day but his acting is shockingly bad, plus, I didn't realize how much coke and alcohol bloat he has now until you guys mentioned it along with showing some of his scenes from the movie. He definitely looks ill. *insert generic Rich Evans illness joke here*

Marvin Falz

Sure, Happy Madison isn't a charity organisation for Adam Sandler's friends who failed or are ill?

Manuel Johnen

Speaking of Adam Sandler's lazy friends, check out Kevin James in "Becky"... :D

AllGoodNamesRGone

Apparentely, this was filmed before he decided to get clean? I've heard he looks better now. Still I don't know if I'd hitch myself to the Happy Madison train. I can see Lauren Lapkus doing this movie as it's a big role for her even if the movie itself is shit. But when I think Happy Madison I think Adam Sandler and his less talented friends. Excluding Norm Macdonald, Chris Rock, and even David Spade who are very good, if not excellent, comedians. David had a recently cancelled show on Comedy Central that was okay. But yeah, a fifty year old David Spade is wrong in this role. He could have played the boss, but I imagine the happy gilmore bench doesn't have a young charismatic comedian to fill David Spade's role in this film. A fifty year old dating a thirty year old? Who does he think he is, Tom Cruise?

You know, I always wondered if the guys at RLM had any comedic training due to how funny their videos were. I'm guessing by Mike's comments on improv it's just the natural chemistry among the crew and talent and not necessarily trained comedic ability.

Anonymous

Although I do think their unique style derives from their natural chemistry with each other and their affinity for (and knowledge of) movies, I would point out that there is an entire world of comedy outside of improv that they could be trained in. Improv is good for some things, but it's very possible to be funny without having studied for years with the Upright Citizens Brigade (or whomever). I'm sort of in Mike's corner about improv, by the way--I like it more than he does, but a little goes a really long way with me.

Mike St Louis

I’m with Mike. I don’t like improv either. I was glad to see this new HITB and another session of Adam Sandler bashing. The old two part HITB about Sandler is a great one to rewatch.

Mike St Louis

Can we get a HITB about Ozark now?

Anonymous

It may have taken a couple edibles but my wife and I really did enjoy the wrong missy.

Anonymous

Would be interested in the boys' view of The Vast of Night, a recent Amazon movie. I often think about the HITB for Looper and Dredd, particularly how a well-executed "small" story can be so much more satisfying than saving the world from giant space lasers. The Vast of NIght definitely fits into this small-story category.

Hey are we seeing a new Jay evolution? There's Hobbit Jay, Amish Jay, Shaved Jay, and Sexy/Manhole Jay. I offer to my fellow RLM patrons a name for this new evolution: Matthew McconaugJay.
