Star Trek: Picard Episodes 2 and 3 - re:View

Rich and Mike babble more about Star Trek crap. What a bunch of NERDS!

Um. They liked it? Hard to tell from that photo. Looking forward to what they have to say.

Whatever happened to "Rich Evans and Mike talk in a black void about Star Wars or Star Trek"? I'm uncomfortable with them talking about Star Trek on re:View...

Anonymous

I love hearing them talk Trek. I just wish they’d do this for TNG/DS9/VOY episodes or seasons.

Anonymous

for future star trek re:views. can we get Jay sitting in the corner sulking? and have mike poke him if he dares to fall asleep or slip away? thanks

Anonymous

Me too! What a missed opportunity that is. Also, I don't know if they're familiar with Babylon 5--I can't recall them ever even mentioning it--but I'd love to hear their spin on that, too.

Jay died in that one Discovery video! Hasn't he suffered enough???

How do a Nerd Crew review Picard

Anonymous

As soon as the casual swearing was being thrown around in Ep.3 I knew the writers officially had no idea what they were doing.

Mike St Louis

So far I have no idea how they got Patrick Stewart involved again. It is the anti Trek like they say.

Watch this with Enterprise-D ambient bridge noise; closest thing we'll get to Star Trek today.

Surprised you didn’t suggest Dash/Dahj/whatever turns out to be the borg queen

David Perek

My guess is that something about the Romulans make them impossible to assimilate correctly without hell breaking loose, perhaps the strong unregulated Vulcan emotions, but Dogecoin is a robot with emotions that the Borgs can learn how from.

You should only feel bad for prequel fans. It was 16 years between ROTJ and Phantom Menace with no assurance there would be another movie for most of that time, and yet the Star Wars fan-base was perfectly happy with that. It is easy to forget that while ROTJ didn't do much right one thing it did do was offer closure. l think I first saw Star Wars around 1993 and never assumed there would be another movie or anything beyond some C-grade novel or video game based off it, so it was sort of weird even when the prequels were coming out, and even more weird when they sucked. But the young kids I feel bad about, because they may have even grown up liking the prequels but then get a wholly inconsistent sequel trilogy. Star Trek, on the other hand, has always been a be happy for what we get series. It is easy to forget the original series had only three seasons and that was it for a while except the animation. Then the movies and TNG came around eventually and were a mess in inconsistency with each other. Then we got an overload of DS9, late TNG, and then Voyager ,and TNG movies, and Enterprise, and a theme park in Vegas, and then basically nothing for a long time with things looking dead, and then the reanimated corpse of JJverse and whatever the hell CBS is doing.

they talked about The Expanse for 8 seconds but The Expanse is great and i'd love to see a re:view / Talk in front of a black void on it.

Didn't Patrick Stewart claim in public, he wanted to make a political statement? But going from the idea, that most actors are so used to being told what to do and say in front of an audience, I'd say he probably got a lot of money.

Marvin Falz

About the economy of the future on earth: all we get are glimpses, a few lines here and there, what the people of earth value and what they don't value. We always see those values embodied in the crews of the starships/the space station. They're the elites of their generations. (Though I'd argue that the overly emotional reactions, aggressive and disrespectful against Spock's cold logic in a life/death situation, where he's the commander in "The Galileo 7" doesn't show us elite personnel, but rather some guys from the street, who get easily pissed off when they don't get the emotional treatment they want.) But we never see how the ordinary people on earth actually live. That might make a more interesting story, or the background of a story of someone ordinary who struggles with something, whatever that might be. Maybe he/she struggles with the boring, challengeless, neutral, sanitized and overly structured of the technocratic society he/she's living in.

Can't say I'm a Star Trek fan, but I enjoy Rich and Mike's insight into something they do care about.

I've come to call it "The Kurtzman Effect" When action trumps any type of coherent, hopeful, or relatable story. Use: The Federation has undergone a rapid change due to The Kurtzman Effect. As for money and greed. We saw that start to slip in after Gene died and on the decline. Gold Press Latinum anyone? Smuggling. Hell all of DS9. The use of money has gone from a we no longer need it for the basics to what we have now. But ultimately yeah. All the shit happening in Star Trek now is due to the The Kurtzman Effect.

My plan is the cancel cbs and just let mike and rich tell me how this whole shit show ends.

Loving Picard so far, and I'm a Trekkie since pretty much birth. Sad Rich and Mike aren't enjoying it, but it's not like we all need to share the same opinion.

Has anyone else thought that Elnor was exactly like Lemro from Alien Private Eye?

Another Rich prediction came true on Ep5. And Rick Berman asks on twitter "How’s everyone enjoying Star Trek Picard?" https://twitter.com/berman_rick/status/1229859036658487296

I’d freakin’ love to see Mike and Rich do individual Re:Views of all the mainline Star Trek shows; TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise. It’d be a fucking ball, and Rich would at least be mildly interested in the material being discussed haha

Anonymous

I'm not even watching this show but I still love watching these. Thanks guys!

What really I love about STP, STD, and New Trek in general is that it forces Rich and Mike to make these painful reviews again and again and again.
