The Lighthouse is my favorite film of the year. Dafoe’s “Hark” rant might be one of my favorite scenes of all-time.

LOVED the Witch, but found the Lighthouse very, very boring with no payoff. It felt like a half-assed attempt at weird, but not WEIRD weird (like Kuso or Gummo or Greasy Strangler or Holy Mountain, etc...)

You can find a lot of messages in Night on Earth, like when the two Africans get racist against another African who just happens to be from another state, or from the story of Helmut and Yoyo. But you never get the feeling, Jim Jarmusch pushes a message on the you.

I like the mandalorian, it's oddly pleasent

Fuck yeah they (Jay) talked about The Lighthouse!

Great day for people who have been spamming RLM social media for a Lighthouse take. Fill in generic Rich Evans joke here.

The last movie I remember Jay not wanting to give spoilers about was Society. So the story in One Cut of the Dead has to be good or fucking crazy like Society for Jay not to talk about it. Which matches the video thumbnail above, haha.

Disappointed you guys didn’t talk about “The Farewell,” one of the best films of the year!

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is the most unenthused Mike and Jay seemed for an annual Catch-Up HITB episode. They weren't excited to talk about most of the movies they saw. 2019 was a sneaky meh/bad year for movies.

Both movies are definitely not worth spoiling but they're very different from each other. And they're both great!

I'll be honest, I really want to hear Mike's opinions on sitcoms and TV shows that are not Star Trek. Especially New Girl.

Agree. Things are getting increasingly by the numbers and pedestrian. I've removed myself from the Patreon for time being as I don't feel like its worth it anymore. Usually you find some gems in their yearly catch ups but it was all either a bunch of crap this time round or just a quick overview of the odd interesting thing and glossed over with more crap. What about The Farewell, what about the Irishman, what about Parasite, Jojo Rabbit, Ready or Not, Booksmart or even Annabelle Comes Home? I would have thought Jay would have more to say about the Lighthouse or even saved it for a Half in the Bag special but nah.

You had me at "mermaid vagina's"

Hearing Mike talk about "ya ya-rona" I now have "My Sharonna" stuck in my head and we all know how long that takes to shake free.

Juan Calvo

I want them to talk about Angry Old Mobsters so bad now that I saw it. It's really good.

Apologies for the off-topic, but... I just realised that this year is the 20th anniversary of Galaxy Quest, a.k.a. the best Star Trek movie ever made! Any chance of a re:View?
