Mike and Jay discuss Blade Runner 2049, the sequel to the box office bomb Blade Runner! But I'm sure it'll be a hit THIS TIME, right?!

what a wondrous thing to wake up to

Thanks for the review; I pretty much agree 100% with Jay on this one. What did you think of the performances? That was the one area on which you did not really comment.

Quick Question from the wife: Did you see the short films leading up to the release?

Kyle Williams

I could have sworn they made it clear in the balcony scene that Deckard was a replicant. Didn't he ask if Gosling was going to retire him? And didn't he use "us" in a way that was referring to them each being a replicant (rather than both blade runners)? This, like the original, is meant for multiple viewings so I guess I'll figure that issue out when it comes out on video.

It's weird, but I guess I didn't like it for all the same reasons that Jay did. Different reaction, but that's ok. I definitely know what Jay's talking about concerning fans of the original. Some of the fans get real up in arms about criticism of it. All that being said, Mike and Jay, have you guys seen the workprint cut of the original movie? I think it's the best version of it. Motivations of characters and themes are a lot clearer and the movie doesn't get bogged down in the whole "is Deckard a replicant or not."

My favorite part of this Half in the Bag, though, is Mike's detour into Star Trek Voyager.

Mike's facial expression during the mention of Pacific Rim 2 captured exactly how I felt when I saw that abhorrent trailer in the theatre the other day.

But how much do I have to pledge to get an invite to Jay's gay wedding?

Kathleen

Leave Pacific Rim 2 alone! Let me have my giant monster vs robot movie in peace! (I enjoyed blade runner 2049 but lean more on mike's side.)

As I was watching BR:2049, and I saw the 'mobile emitter', my first thought was: "This is totally the Doctor's mobile emitter from Voyager". My second was "I bet Mike Stoklasa is going to mention this". God bless you, you hack fraud.

wooo Dark City shout out!

I'm sad the thumbnail didn't have a photoshopped Rich Evans instead of Gosling. I've not seen the movie yet, but hoping to go this week

Surprised Mike didn't bring up the Star Trek TNG episode Measure of a Man. It has a very similar line about every sivilization having a slave race.

LOL @ Mike's reaction the Pacific Rimjob 2. PR1 was one of only two movies that I've ever actually walked out of. I remember laughing at one reviewer who said "this movie is about as entertaining as playing with my transformers in the bathtub." :D
