**GETTING PHYSICAL & HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

Is this my favorite volume so far?! MAYBE! We are nearing the twilight before the impending darkness and we have NEW elements I was NOT expecting and it only has me even more excited for what's to come!

There was a lot of...sex...in this volume, so there's that.
And a lot of grossness. But also a lot of love. But be warned, it's graphic.

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

I loved this reaction, with Whiteboard-kun looming over you ominously. He also knows what's coming. In this volume: Just totally-not-gay Griffith having sex with a woman and thinking about a man the whole time. Guts telling Casca to get up and pull herself together when he shows up is so great, not "I'm here to save you!" just "Why are you letting this idiot beat you up?" Guts catching the rings and spinning them, I swear I heard "Number One" from Bleach start playing. The sex scene with Casca and Guts, at first it's like "um..are we just going to keep watching?" but then you find out that it kind of needs to be that explicit and show them changing positions to set up the flashback for Guts and Donovan. Guts being assaulted and then opening up to Casca about it later is honestly such an important part of Guts' character, which is why the 1997 anime could never really do it justice. But yeah, another great volume and great reaction. At one point your cheeks turned the same color as your lipstick haha! Thanks for the reaction!

“Whiteboard-kun looming over you ominously” — Ooohhh….he probably does know what’s coming…and I don’t know if I’m excited, terrified, or BOTH about that. That note about Griffith! *SNAPS FINGERS* TRUTHHHHHH!!!! And yes, I love Guts and how he motivates and equally treats Casca and knows she doesn’t need rescuing, just a Tuxedo Mask style of encouragement! ;) And yes, the idea that the sex scene led to this MAJOR character development between Guts and Casca was so insane! I’m so glad it happened, as sad and heartbreaking as parts of it were, especially for Guts! I can see the comparison with the anime, now! Thank you so much for the comment and kind words! Oh yeah, I didn’t realize how much I was BLUSHING this episode, hahaha!!! The sights of this volume, I swear! XD

This king assaulting the daughter thing is one of the rare moments that I disagree with Miura on. I don't think he should have added that whole plot line in the manga. I prefer the way the anime did it. I believe the reason that Miura did it was to paint the entire nobility of Midland as rotten. All the way from Minister Foss and his schemes, Julius and his jealousy, all the jealous nobleman, the queen, and even the very top, the king. So it fits with the overall theme of the show. What some people consider to be "good", "noble", "angels", are actually evil and demonic. Miura drew the torturer as a guy with severe disabilities and deformities. And I believe the reason is once again to continue with that theme. Sometimes the insides match the outside. Just as disgusting inside as he is outside. But in other instances, this is not the case. Like with Griffith. Beautiful on the outside. But evil on the inside. Or like Vargus, who was disgusting on the outside, but good on the inside. I think the anime changed the appearance to be more respectful towards people with those kinds of deformities.

I really agree – I think the anime keeping the king more ambiguous was fine, because we already had the assault with Griffith, and we’ve seen the count be corrupt in the start of the manga, but I guess we needed to show the King as THIS corrupt to show him being so desperate to go after Griffith? Still, I agree with you that it could have been toned down. And yes, the showing of how our appearance can or cannot match with who we are on the inside is an important statement to make, but I agree with you that it might be the better route to not villainize everyone that’s not a “standard of beauty” in the series. Those are really good points in this! Thank you for the comment! 🙂
