**DANCING ALONE HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

OH! We're down to the final three episodes and Bachira is not letting this tango end without him leveling up! I'm SO proud of Bachira finding his "voice" and realizing he don't need no man!

Meanwhile, Isagi gets a taste of Rin...and seems quite satisfied! The game is tied and it's down to the last point...show...I have so many theories but am SO excited and anxious for what's going down!

Loved the reaction and discussion! I have been holding back with comments the past few eps until we reached this one (!) + this is about a topic I didn’t want to touch earlier in the season until we reached this moment with our Bestest Boi. So this will be long 😅, I’m sorry Whim & Romania! 💙 I generally don’t care about the “sports” aspects of any sports anime, least of all football (it’s on the level of an antipathy, for various reasons but mostly due to how absolutely unavoidable it is where I live and how it impacts me at work). To me BL is almost entirely about what it takes to change habits, how difficult it actually is to change your own patterns of thinking (harmful or not) and the process of developing new ones (again, harmful or not). The amount of internal work that needs to happen, the energy which needs to be expended, to move even a fraction from what are someone’s “set ways.” For Isagi, I love his level of self-awareness! We so frequently see characters in shows (often protagonists) – ‘learn’ but not actually internally grow or change beyond the mechanics of something that’s happening or some form of physical improvement. Seeing him consistently catch onto his own patterns of thinking, identify insecurities/flaws/conflicts, acknowledge them, admit that he’s trying to work on them (and needs to), and then let us see the attempts at overcoming these obstacles? Along with how explicitly this is presented! Love this, especially in a protagonist. Additionally, as you were noting – he goes through all of this and, at the same time, wants to see (AND encourage) others to also overcome their own obstacles. It’s wonderful. This is literally what it takes to improve yourself and be a better person in any scenario – awareness, then analysis, then deconstruction and rebuilding. I take Isagi’s puzzle piece metaphor to go beyond the mystery or ‘What is it? What is the secret recipe/chemical reaction?’ - to also visually represent building blocks. Taking them apart and putting them back together in a different way. It doesn’t always work and it’s not always enough, so then you just do it all over again. Internal work is about being in a constant process of change – to me, BL addresses this incredibly well. For Barou, I think it is about understanding his own need for control. He went from needing everything to be a specific way and, if it wasn’t, blaming his environment – to acknowledging that HE has a measure of responsibility and therefore control. For us, it shows that his change could only happen after a near complete destruction of his sense of self (as well as his identity and vision of his future). Sometimes change can only come about after obliteration – not the healthiest approach, but real. Beyond that, redirecting a need for control into controlling your own actions as opposed to your environment (and other people) – is profound growth. With Barou we also had an example of how attempting to force someone to change can make them lash out. So Isagi then going the other way – accepting the way Barou was and working with it? Again, an example of redirecting control. I think part of this is also Isagi inspiring ‘adaptability’ in others – in him we actually see the importance of role models. I think an opposite example to Barou in terms of control is Chigiri – who wanted to give up control, have the choice taken out of his hands, so he didn’t have to be responsible for the outcome (regardless of what it was). So with Chigiri we also see someone taking control of their actions, and we’re shown how different that path is - partially when the origin of their patterns of thinking is so different (injury). And now for dearest darling Bachira 🥰 – I noticed him immediately due to his Murder Baby potential in ep 1, and then he made himself ‘it’ and instantly had my heart! Watching him grow throughout the season so far, as well as your care for him, has been the sweetest! For Bachira, I think as well as not seeking external validation – this ep is about overcoming being afraid to change. Because does changing that way, or modifying how someone perceives their reality, does that change who they are? Or - more specific to the concern Bachira had – will doing that mean he is no longer himself and that he has lost something? Or even more - given up on something important. I’ve loved all of your analysis of our darlings in general, but specifically for Bachira – you’re absolutely right, it is about him trusting himself. There’s also the change of perspective from the first half of the ep (shots of Bachira’s back as he watches the others play) to putting himself back in the centre. The show uses perspective to signify internal change a lot! Completely agree regarding Bachira’s perception of loneliness, too, him seeking connection and now acknowledging his own power. I don’t think we are ever truly alone because we have our internal world. It is another example of a change of perspective so fundamentally affecting someone’s reality. I’m so proud of Bachira! 🥰 I can no longer get through this episode without tearing up, it’s very Pavlovian at this point. I want to link to the new evolution of Bachira’s theme that we hear in this episode, it is called Farewell to Kaibutsu/Farewell to Monster and it is absolutely stunning (link with static no-spoiler image, comments are off): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EAphBM01B8 We have so many examples of this with the various characters, but I won’t go on any further. Also, poor Toki – what did he do to deserve that drive-by at the end? He’s just an anxious boy. 😂 I cannot believe we only have 2 episodes left…😔- looking forward to next week! 💙

I really love Bachira's charge down the field but man do I want to give him a hug. That being said, there were a couple of really neat things this episode! First is I love how Rin blocking Isagi's shot here directly parallels when Isagi blocked Rin's shot in the first episode! Right down to the hitting the head on the goalpost and the similar faces! I just find it neat! Second is that, for me at least, I forget how freaking athletic Bachira is. Like, I know they all are, but when we get shown the brute strength from Kunigami, Tokimitsu and Barou, then we are shown the freakish speed of Chigiri and Zantetsu, I keep forgetting how agile Bachira is until we get to these moments where we see him just shine! Third, I feel like this show just loves absolutely wringing August leos. Reo, Bachira, ME, I can't even. It's really hard seeing Bachira so torn up, especially since we see him so cheerful all the time, but it does remind me of the Egoist Bible where when asked what made him cry recently Bachira said "I'm crying so often that I forgot why" which then just makes me want to wrap in a blanket with Isagi and plop them in front of a Ghibli movie with some hot chocolate! On a lighter note, in the Egoist Bible it says that the best singer in Blue Lock is Aryu followed by Reo, which just makes me want to hear them do Karaoke together, I feel like it would be fun. That has nothing to do with the episode, I just feel like these characters need a mental and emotional break. Anyway, I loved your reaction and discussion, as always and I am in a weird spot where I can't wait for you to watch these last episodes and yet I'm dreading it because it's ending! (For now). Aaaaahhh! Still, can't wait for the next one!

Thank you so much for the kind words and comment! I agree with the points you noted and it's going to be sad not having Blue Lock on my Thursdays in a few weeks -- at least there's more coming eventually down the pipeline! :) We'll just have to savor these last few episodes!

Best Boi Bachiraaaaaa! <3 I love that this series does talk about self-growth and the process of changing who we are to become better versions of ourselves! I agree! And yes, Isagi realizing his flaws practically in the moment and working to change his ways to evolve and adapt is great, too! As someone that is VERY stubborn, I draw inspiration from Isagi to become a better person! Blue lock definitely is unique in that area! I agree, Barou’s journey is about what he knows he himself needs and how you wrestle with that control! I’m curious now Rin will differ from Barou in future seasons, because I feel they’re SO similar in many ways, but I just know the mangaka is going to make them go different directions somehow! And yes, we’ve seen Chigiri kind of work through his flaws early on in the series, but I’m curious where that will go with him from here, too. But yes, Bachria really has blossomed this season and I love how this episode is kind of the major critical point of that development! I’m so proud of him! Definitely agree with your thoughts about him here, too! And ahhhh, thank you for the link to the theme too! It’s so fitting for him! :) But Toki, ahahaha, poor Toki - I just want therapy and happiness for him! 😛 I feel for him! It’s insane that we’re so close to the end, but thank you for the comment and kind words! I cannot WAIT for these last episodes, but the wait for season 2 is going to HURT moving forward!
