The gay power in this episode is just overwhelming, and XL my dear, when you roll the dice, you're supposed to shake the cup, not yourself LOL HC is pure sexiness in this episode, using his powerful finger (and just one hand later) to easliy defeat LQQ, guide XL through the gambling lesson and receive that half a bun. Dude's really skillful with his hands (bad innuendo intended) Since XL is officially a god, does this bun count as Holy Communion? The show really got the idea from the book about cliffhangers and while I'm not complaining, just cannot wait for next episodes!

I've realised with this second episode that the moment of Hua Cheng standing in the ruins of Paradise Manor as it burns reminds me a lot of Banana Fish's first OP with Ash and the fire in the background 😭 So happy we got chibis this season as well 🥰 Rokurokubi, or rather the long-necked yokai, originates from Japanese mythology so it's one of the few designs I do know the meaning of. They look like normal women during the day, but at night their neck elongates and in some tales they perform bad acts like attacking at night and drinking their victims' blood. Some tales have the head completely detaching from the body and being connected by an invisible string that some interpreted it as being the yokai's neck elongating. I believe there's an idea of when they fall asleep their souls detach from their bodies and roam around freely. Shi Qingxuan animated is exactly how I imagined them. I love their almost flighty and fidgety nature. But, when it's required, you can see the Wind Master being much more serious. I just adore that moment of Xie Lian and Shi Qingxuan being unable to believe what Lang Qianqiu just did, and then their immediate poses afterwards making it seem like they're embarrassed by the chance of being associated with our himbo Martial God. It's the blasé way Hua Cheng deflected the table and smashed it to pieces...he's so powerful and so hot 😍 The bringing in of a new betting table is just an added flex on Hua Cheng's part. When the ghost asked if Xie Lian was going to die as he was walking up the stairs to get lessons from Hua Cheng my first thought was: Xie Lian isn't, but this next scene may kill me 🥰 This teaching moment in all the media forms has had a different vibe to it. In the novel it was a very soft, sweet and loving moment between Xie Lian and Hua Cheng; the manhua made it more sensual; and the donghua has made it so soft and romantic. Shi Qingxuan whacking Lang Qianqiu with his fan for grousing about his apparent worth is hilarious. Really gives them the feel of Lang Qianqiu needing to be taken under the wing of his more mature fellow heavenly officials. Hua Cheng's fake shock at losing reminded me so much of Xie Lian in the manhua when he "starts bullsh*tting" 🤣 Xie Lian's running away from Hua Cheng as he goes to eat the bun just made me look forward even more to whenever we will finally get the iconic "I need my hat!" scene 😂 This moment in the novel, with Lang Qianqiu saying Xie Lian can't use a friend in the way Shi Qingxuan is suggesting, is what made me start to like Lang Qianqiu a whole lot more. The donghua did a great job of making me feel the same way. He's too precious in this moment 🥺 Oh my god yes! Little ghost girl with Xie Lian is exactly like Betty Boop in Who Framed Roger Rabbit...I now want to re-watch that movie 😂 It was hard to ignore some of those subtitles, along with the translation choices at times. The fact Crunchyroll don't put who does the translations for the subtitles does make me question either their treatment of their translators or that they're using machine translations. For condensing down the only thing that sticks out as being condensed a bit is their journey to the Ghost City and Xie Lian wandering around before he ends up at the Gambler's Den. For the gambler he won the first bet and because of the high of the win he tried for the second bet, just it was in order to kill all his competitors not the other gamblers (mistranslation on Crunchyroll's part there). Lang Qianqiu interrupted the bet. The only change from that point on was that the ghosts threw things at Lang Qianqiu in the donghua, whilst in the novel and the manhua some female ghosts started trying to take certain items of clothing off of him (but with the positioning they had Lang Qianqiu in the donghua this wouldn't have been as realistically possible so makes sense to change it). Episode 1 covered the first two chapters in Volume 2 in the official translation (three of the web chapters) [~47 pages]; Episode 2 covered one chapter in the official translation (two of the web chapters) [~36 pages]. I'm sticking with my prediction I made back during the novel reaction as to where Season 2 will end but honestly have no clue what all they'll give me (I stayed away from the other trailers bar a birthday one that was mostly this stuff in Gambler's Den). Donghua really decided to make the d*ck innuendo with Hua Cheng's scimitar way more obvious 🤣 But I will be disappointed if the English subtitles just don't put E'Ming's name. It makes me worry that they'll do a transliteral meaning for Ruoye this season 😭

THE GAYS WON this episode for SURE. Xie Lian -- I just love how shook up he was by the end of this episode -- he was more shaken than the dice of the Gambler's Den! XD HC is oozing sexuality this episode - that finger can do SO much - and his transition from being dominant Supreme Ghost to the most tender ghostly should-be-lover is just *chef's kiss* and I'm here for it! But HOLY COMMUNION! YES! I think we can count it as that! And *sigh* we can't escape the Cliffhangers, can we? But ah well, I'm so excited for what's to come, I'll let it slide! ;) Thank you for the comment and kind words!

Ooohhhhhh, the Banana Fish comparison is SO GOOD – hopefully this series has a happier ending than that one. *nervous laugh* But the chibis are so cute this season! The Wind Master is done PERFECTLY – their “flighty” nature is so on point! How they react to LQQ is EXACTLY how I imagined it as well! I love how the Wind Master also scolds LQQ, too, in their own “friendly” way! I love HC just has spare tables in the wings for if one smashes and you KNOW he’s doing all he can to flex for his gege in this episode! It’s *coughcough* HIGHLY EFFECTIVE! And YES! I’m already looking forward to season 3 (hopefully) when we get the beach scene with them! <3 And yes, that’s so true – each version has the scene of him and HC with the dice give off a different “vibe” – something for EVERYONE! 🙂But there is no deviating from the “vibes” of that shot with E’Ming. My God. Ooohhh, thank you for the information on the Rokurokubi; that is interesting!! I do love how LQQ is being portrayed in the donghua, too! Also, yes, I wanted to watch WFRR after this episode! The subtitles are very frustrating, but luckily, having read the novel, I know the gist of what is being said, but I feel for donghua-only folks. If they literally translate Ruoye, though? OOF. I’m fine with them cutting the Pre-Ghost City journey a bit because we get the main points we need to know and him wandering around the Ghost City – they do give us that little montage, so that’s fine. I am curious what they will give us but we shall see, eh?? Thank you so much for the kind words and comment!
