The Doldrey soldiers could have easily defeated the Band of the Hawk. And they would easily recapture the castle too. But watching a hero like Boscone die, and then witnessing the fall of their castle destroyed their perception of strength and their morale. Boscone is probably in the top 100 greatest human warriors alive on the planet, so watching a guy like that die on my side would make me think there is no hope for me lol. At this point, Guts is very famous and wealthy man. He could have the greatest blacksmiths in the kingdom of Midland forge however many swords he wishes just the way he likes them. And similarly for Zodd, he probably has limitless access to the greatest swords across the world. I think its important to factor that in. But yes, for sure, Zodd's weapon being in some way supernatural is very plausible. For Griffith, we have 2 moments we can use as evidence to decide how he views his soldiers. The first being the fountain monologue where its clear that he views his soldiers as beneath him, and as tools to be used. Not as friends. But the Casca flashbacks give a conflicting view. He was hurt by the death of the boy and gave a great line "i think it was my dream that killed the boy". And in the river, he was scratching his arms to point of bleeding while saying things like "I feel no responsibility to those comrades who died in my service, because they chose to fight for me". Casca also shared her thoughts about Griffith. According to Casca, Guts is more than just a tool to Griffith. She believes there is an emotional connection. In my opinion, there is nothing gay about Griffith. Yes he is friendly with Guts, but I would need to see some kind of sexual attraction to convince me. Like Griffith touching Guts' muscles or looking at him in secret from a distance while blushing. something. I just don't see it. But its a popular view that Griffith is lusting for Guts. To me the governor Gennon situation was solely about money. I don't see any hints that he wanted it or enjoyed it. The personal example with your friend you brought up was actually so perfect. I was just rewatching the part of JJK with Junpei's sulky contemplating on hateful actions he expiriences and how in Japan culturally people have an idea that perhaps the actual opposite of love should be indifference. Just a fun correlation there.
