Hi Romania, where did you get that ace of the diamond tapestry?? I need one of those!

Whim

When I was watching Daiya and found out there were dorms, I thought, “This is just like Blue Lock,” so it’s funny to see you bring it up in the ad. I was fangirling so hard when I first watched ep 2, and I’ll be fangirling in this comment, too. So, BACHISAGI. When Bachira winked and said, “I believed in you, and I won,” instant ship for me. One of my favorite moments in this episode was when Bachira and Isagi were training, then the lighting changed, music stopped, Bachira’s usual smile turned into a serious, sincere expression, and he said, “I’m glad I came here because I got to meet you.” It’s so sweet 🥺 It reminds me of Hinata’s “I’m glad I came here” (in s4 after watching Hoshiumi play) with that same shadow over this face. Very impactful. And then Isagi’s inner thoughts, “What’s wrong with this guy? He’s talking nonsense. But… He gives me courage.” I fell head over heels, I was fully on board the bachisagi train. It was similar to my experience of ep 1 Kagakuro lol. It’s funny how Isagi doesn’t really understand Bachira but still gains confidence from him. It’s similar to how Bachira didn’t have a concrete reason for believing that Isagi would kick the ball at Kira, but he believed in Isagi anyway (because Bachira listened to his monster). There isn't really a “logical” reason why those two connected, but it makes their relationship interesting so far. Bachira fell in love at first sight, enough said. Also, Bachisagi’s color combo reminds me of Aokise! 💙💛 The visualization of the monster reaching out to the fallen Bachira in the flashback made me think of the deal with the devil. I had a similar reaction to Kira’s disqualification this ep. Kira talking about how talented he is, calling himself “Japanese soccer’s jewel in the crown," and complaining about the tag game and complaining about how Connie and Isagi stayed instead of him. He’s full of himself and showed his true colors, especially with that terrifying face while yelling and glaring at Isagi. I seriously was worried that Kira was going to punch Isagi 😭 Kira didn’t join Blue Lock to become the #1 striker and he didn’t drink the blue Kool-Aid, but rather he said he joined to prove Ego wrong. He didn’t take the game seriously like he should have. So I didn’t feel *too* bad for him. Also, I personally don’t consider Isagi hitting Kira to be a “betrayal” since they were just acquaintances and they’re all rivals anyways. In ep 1, when Isagi decided not to hit Connie, and instead said he wanted to target *stronger* players. But when Bachira passed the ball to him, Isagi muttered, “The strongest guy,” right before kicking the ball. Bachira gave him the courage/opportunity/whatever to eliminate the *strongest* player. At this moment, I don’t think Isagi saw him as Kira or an acquaintance, Isagi just saw him as an opponent, “the strongest guy.” Itoshi Sae is voiced by Takahiro Sakurai - Geto Suguru (JJK), Miyuki Kazuya (Daiya), Reigen Arataka (MP100), Lu Guang (Link Click), Giyu Tomioka (Demon Slayer), and Tsukishima Akiteru (Haikyuu). When watching JJK season 2, I’ve been hearing bits of Sae’s voice from Geto haha. Sae’s an intriguing character. Him being a midfielder and having pinkish-red hair and turquoise eyes (since characters like Isagi, Bachira, Kunigami, etc. have eye colors that match their hair colors, while Sae’s color scheme is contrasting). Sae’s line “I was born in the wrong country.” will always stick with me. It’s kinda yikes, but I can’t help but like him, his attitude is endearing in a way. I also like how serious and blunt he is. He has no filter even in front of an interviewer. The interviewer said that Sae returned to Japan because regulations stopped him from playing in the first team, but I found it funny that Sae later said the only reason he returned to Japan was because his passport expired. Sae came for the passport renewal, stayed for the “idiot striker that’ll be born out of BLLK” lol. I love the parallel between Isagi (after losing his soccer finals) relating to Ego’s example of a striker shooting instead of passing and then choosing to join the BLLK program in ep 1 and Sae (who complained about JP’s mediocre strikers) listening to Anri’s speech and then gaining interest in Japan and BLLK. For both Isagi and Sae, BLLK was the thing that they never knew they needed. You mixed up Imamura Yudai (dark brown hair with piercings) with Naruhaya Asahi (fluffy, light brown hair) when talking about the person who had interactions with Gagamaru (white hair top-knot). Imamura didn’t talk in this episode. Naruhaya was the one who slept with an orange object next to him and the one who nabbed Gagamaru’s dumplings (and I really shipped them this ep because of the small background interactions lol). I like to call Naruhaya “Hedgehog” because he’s cute, small, and has fluffy hair (and it’s easier to remember than his name Naruhaya). Fun fact: Gagamaru’s VA Shugo Nakamura is a singer and sings the ED!! His singing voice sounds so different from his Gagamaru voice. It’s incredible. A small correction about you saying in your discussion that Japan won the 2002 World Cup but hasn’t won since then. Brazil won the 2002 WC, and Japan has NEVER won the WC. In this ep, Anri also said that Japan has never gotten further than Top 16 in the World Cup. This stayed true even for the 2022 WC where Japan placed Top 16. It’s funny that you said BLLK is basically a “shonen sports battle anime but they’re like, we’ll make it soccer” because the BLLK manga author Kaneshiro said, “BLLK was born out of an attempt to create a battle manga rather than a sports manga.” Another interesting thing is that Kaneshiro created Blue Lock based on Gambling Apocalypse: Kaiji and Eyeshield 21. Kaneshiro said, “I thought it would be exciting to mix two of my favorite manga and turn them into a soccer manga.” The faces are so dramatic and exaggerated sometimes that they look straight out of a horror series. I wanted to mention that Kaneshiro Muneyuki’s previous manga include As the Gods Will, Jagaaan, and other works. He’s mainly written horror/thriller manga, so you can definitely see the influence in BLLK so far. It reminds me of how Furudate wrote horror manga before Haikyuu, which explains the horror influence in the scary facial expressions and imagery in Haikyuu.

Hey!! Someone sent me that! I wish I knew where it was from but I was so happy to get it; I had to put it on display! Thank you for the comment!

Hahaha, yes! I’m glad to see that connection, too! Bachira just showing up and being like, “I like you” so unabashedly with Isagi is so refreshing and great! I can fangirl with you! And yesssss, the “creepy” Hinata moments where he has that slightly unhinged look? DEFINITELY channeled in Bachira! I also love the concept of the “deal with the devil” and the monster with Bachira – the way “monsters” are hinted at here is interesting and I’ll be curious to see where the show goes with it. If this is your version of KagaKuro, definitely going to keep an eye out! 🙂 And ahh, the AoKise colors – totally see it, now! 🙂 It makes sense for Kira to be “locked off” at this point because he didn’t “drink the Kool-aid” and really was only there to prove Ego wrong…and if Drag Race has taught us anything, those queens don’t usually last. And yeah, in a game to win and be competitive, getting Kira out isn’t a “betrayal” really. Good point! Gin noted that Sae is voiced by Sakurai and that is crazy! I didn’t notice the similarities, so I’ll have to pay attention, now! I’ll be curious to see where his storyline goes! Of course I mixed up Yudai and Asahi (they look so similar hahahaha) and Gin, at least I can tell him apart from the others! 😛 I am usually not good with characters that look “similar” in a series, so it’ll probably take me a while to get them, so bear with me. But interesting!! Knowing that Gin’s VA sings the ED is so cool! I like when character’s VAs get to sing the OP or ED! 🙂 Giving me KNB vibes, now! OOOHHHH, okay, that makes more sense with Japan never winning the world cup just placing in the top 16. Got it! Thank you for that correction! It makes a lot of sense that this is designed to be a like a battle shonen…but a sports anime! That’s cool that the mangaka based this series off of two others, as well! Taking fanning out and writing to a new level! I love the style, though – it’s SO dramatic but in a good way – definitely makes it stand out from other series. I forget that Furudate did horror manga as well! I need to go check those out! 🙂 Thank you so much for the kind words and comment!
