Man, this became a whole other show, and it felt like 5 episodes worth of stuff in a single one, I was barely coming to grips with one thing that happened when a whole other thing was already under way. This episode was wild. I'll admit, that grope took me out of the show a little bit, probably should have realized it wasn't just a 90s throwaway casual sexual harassment thing but instead was building up to something. I quite liked that the Vash & Rem relationship wasn't really a romantic one, which would have been the obvious choice but more of a mentor type thing, and not only that, but that she herself does have a backstory with a similar figure and is not jut there to be Vash's tragic loss. Instead like you put it is a cycle of kindness. I know of one other species that grow up fast, only for later to stay in their prime way too long: Vash & Knives are the Legendary Super Sayans. Finally the whole Knives, Vash & Rem dynamic reminded me of an online post I saw of somebody (very Vash-like) wondering how documentary crews could just let a croc eat a gazelle. Then somebody very Rem-like explained crocodiles need to eat too in order to live. And then comes a very Knives-like guy saying he’s one of the very few vegans with the courage to say that crocodiles shouldn’t be allowed to exist on HIS planet… When you’re so vegan that you’re calling for the complete eradication of an animal species you might have taken things a bit too far. That’s who Knives is to me, he wanted to give Vash his Eden where thing don’t have to hunt other things, and his solution is ‘well, I’ll just have to create a world with only you, me, and a bunch of plants’. It would explain why resources have been so precarious in their new world so far, Knives didn’t want any people there to begin with. So he’s been starving them out for over a century.

Thanks for the kind words and comment! I'll definitely comment on parts of it in a future discussion, and love I your comment, but the last part about Knives starving the people out for a century and destroying resources -- you answered a lot of questions I had in the discussion for this episode and next, which I had hoped to be surprised on and said specifically in the discussion to please not confirm or deconfirm. I know everyone's excited, but it makes me sad and hesitant to read comments for future episodes, for fear of being spoiled on answers I'm theorizing, to let me find out for myself in the episodes what ends up happening. Thanks for the comment, though!
