**HEADPHONE WARNING**

We're starting Kuroko's Basketball, the manga, and WOW, the style is MOST certainly different at the start of this series! I have no doubt it's going to evolve as we go, though!

There are some interesting points left in, left out, and I forget how cocky Kagami comes across right at the beginning! It's going to be fun going back through this series from the manga angle and seeing what all changed and what all was adapted well or otherwise into the anime!

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

Anime Annie

The mangaka hit big with this being his debut! I can hear the dun-dun and the voiceover with that first page 😂 Yeah the anime gave us all the emojis and stuff when Riko was reading the stats of the players, but I feel like that helps her 'ability' fit in with the other superpowers 😆 Kagami being a jerk in the beginning and then Kuroko bringing him back down to Earth for me links a lot with Kagami's response in the anime after the Teiko Arc (that Kuroko should have just basically slapped some sense into the Generation of Miracles like he did with Kagami). The thicker lines in some of the shots I feel adds to the humour of those scenes. The translation for what Kuroko did make me go back and check. In the anime what he writes is translated as "We will be the best in Japan". The characters used don't include any pronouns so a straight translation would be "be the best in Japan". It made me wonder what characters the mangaka used and if he included the pronouns for "I" and "you" changing the meaning quite a bit, to the point that I looked up the manga in Japanese. The characters used are the same as in the anime, so that's a very interesting translation choice. Gotta say I'm somewhat distracted by Kise's dark eyebrows... Takeuchi could be Kasamatsu's maternal uncle; would explain the eyebrows resemblance. That or Kaijo really are the Eyebrows' Team. KasaKi really are the IwaOi for Kuroko no Basuke just with the senpai/kouhai trope instead of childhood friends. I have a headcanon for why Kuroko might not like headpats so much: considering his atrocious bedhead, it's possible that headpats can cause him similar issues with his hair then puking up in weird directions etc. "He's more about the fists than the head" Romania! Such a dirty mind! 🤣❤ For a first manga the linework is pretty cool and interesting. Gotta say I like Kuroko's style for what he did when on break. Sitting under a kotatsu reading the whole time sounds like a very nice relaxing way to spend your holidays. You saying Kasamatsu could have done so much for Teiko just reminds me of how alike his methods for captain-ing is to Nijimura's. I may have a type when it comes to captains in Kuroko no Basuke 😂 Midorima has an older vibe to him than the other First Years but I feel like it's more about how he holds himself and his aura, because his appearance definitely has a younger feel to it than in the anime. Potentially they aged them up a bit with their looks so as it wouldn't seem jarring with the seiyuu voices. Like if Midorima looked like that in the anime but it was still Ono Daisuke's voice that might be a tad unsettling. Kise predicted Kagami would change but his idea of how he would change I feel is that Kagami would become a more self-centred player. I do believe Kagami did change but in a different way. The Kagami from this moment in the manga I can't see crying as he leaves Kuroko or being so hesitant to tell Seirin that he plans to go to America for school. So yes he did change but rather than for the worse, as Kise somewhat predicted, I definitely feel Kagami's change was for the better. The blooper about if Riko's a dog or cat person is just making me thinking of my OT3 with her, Hyuuga and Kiyoshi. Kiyoshi is most definitely like a dog, and I'd say Hyuuga comes off as being a little cat-like in his personality at times. Yes that extra is where the first fandisc came from. Honestly love that a lot of the extras are actually from the source material and not simply anime-only.

2023-06-14 03:26:45 I still can’t believe this was their first manga!! It’s incredible and YES, I instantly heard the start of the anime with that first page; LOVE that was the adaptation they used! I do think that manga linework does look good for being their first work; I am excited to see how it develops, though! I do like that the anime “hyped up” certain things like the superpower angle with Riko. But yes, Kagami’s attitude – I forgot he was like this at the start of the series! Yes, Kuroko should have just slapped some sense into all of them! That is interesting about the translation! Ooohhh, I hadn’t even thought about the coach for Kaijo being a maternal uncle - that could be the headcanon! 😛 Getting Kasamatsu now and comparing to Nijimura makes me more excited for seeing him in the manga later! Your headcanon for Kuroko’s disdain for headpats is a lot better than mine! :P I do like that little inclusion of him and the kotatsu! <3 HAHAHA – I love the idea that because Daisuke Ono’s voice is so deep, they made him look older in the anime - that actually makes a LOT of sense! I agree wholeheartedly – Kise thought Kagami would become more self-centered but that wasn’t how it ended up and I agree; he’s actually grown a lot over the course of the series! Maybe Kagami was reminding Kise a LOT of Aomine at the start, here. ;) I love that several of the bloopers came from the manga extras; that’s so cool! And yes, Teppei is SO a dog person, and I could see Hyuuga more as the cat. :) Fuel that OT3! 😀Thank you for the kind words and comment – I can’t wait to see what else the manga gives us!
