**PLOT-TWIST HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

Was I prepared for this volume set? I THOUGHT I was, but there are so many twists, turns, tonal and character differences that I was SO surprised and stunned by the routes this story diverges, in sharing Sadamoto's vision of Episodes 23, 24...and....

...skipping right into End of Evangelion, eh? Well, okay, then. *nervous laughter*

Before i might have said Shinji is the character most different from the Anime but Kaworu is probably a good contender. He is much more human here and i really enjoyed it and his more complicated relationship with Shinji. That said we can see it as another "oranges and apples" thing. With Kaworu being an angel his more "devine" anime incarnation makes sense and while i perhaps enjoyed this more, this more complicated version (if the first time you see someone they crush a kitten in their hands it might take a little extra time for you to warm up to them), i think Kaworu's death and the impact it had on Shinji worked better in the anime... perhaps why Gendo had to come in for the save en tell him he never loved him... to get Shinji properly depressed. Again, i'm really enjoying these interviews/interludes, very insightful and interesting. Why does everybody have to be so deep?

Bahahahaha, the idea that Gendo had to come in and get Shinji "properly depressed" for the manga is actually hilarious and also...true. Because, yeah, killing kittens isn't exactly going to bolster your attraction towards someone, usually. I do agree that I like the relationship that develops between Shinji and Kaworu, if I'm honest, more in the anime than the manga. But, I appreciate the complexity that Sadamoto gives Kaworu in this version -- it works as a good foil against this more Shonen protagonist Shinji. But I agree, there's a reason so many love that anime episode 24, and maybe this version helps to highlight it more. :D And yeah, all the interludes/interviews in these manga volumes are GREAT! I've loved seeing how insightful everyone's views have been; it really paints a picture of the sheer talent involved with this series, and makes me love it more. Thanks for the comment!
