**A Headphone Warning, Perhaps, but I was SPEECHLESS for Most of this Episode**

I don't think an episode of something has rendered me speechless like this in a while -- my breath was caught in my throat for the latter half of this, but OH. MY.

"The Monster" is already revealed, so it seems, and his presence is raising SO many questions -- I love Dr. Tenma, but the cracks in his idealism are definitely present and worth discussing as we start down this very interesting trek alongside him, Detective Lunge, and "Johan" and I'm excited and nervous for what's to come!

Johan Liebert. The icon. The legend. The man himself with his beautiful face and beautiful voice has officially shown himself in one of the most iconic scenes in anime/manga. Very excited to get of work and watch this. This will definitely be a doozy of a reaction and discussion I feel 😄

The myth, the man, the legend... the dissociative personalty? The crack theory is not that far fetched from what we got so far, Lunge makes a point of saying he hates rain because it washes evidence away, wouldn't it wash gun powder residue from Tenma's hands? Anyway, Tenma definitely gives those 'privileged guy gives life advice on how to pull yourself by your boot straps' vibes in this episode. Tenma's a good guy but his world view is untested so far, other than that close call 9 years ago. Saying all life has value, is easy when you're trying to save a child and coping with the fact you're getting punished for it; so is that a true belief or a self serving coping mechanism? Was his outburst of wanting them dead his true feelings but buried it because he understands that's an ugly thought? But now, that child is grown and seems to be a serial killer, a good dozen people are dead and you got a great career out of it. Is all of that a counterpoint or a reaffirmation of your belief system? It's all so muddy. Like they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Stop signs are not blue in Germany. I have no idea where the production got this idea from. (An old version of the sign was an inverted triangle, blue with a large red border, but that was almost 25 years out of date at the time this story is set, and that sign had HALT instead of STOP and a completely different shape, not just the same in blue...)

I love this episode so much! The way they created Johan's introduction was so perfect and spot on exactly from the manga. Let me just say, the scene where they show Johan's face looking at Tenma, it was so beautifully drawn in the manga and animated perfectly giving me goosebumps when I saw it. When I saw his face, I could not stop going back to that page to look at it 😂 he's just so pretty. Especially his voice is so bone-chilling too. It's so calm yet terrifying. One thing I do want to mention is that I love the comparison between the two same lines in this episode. When Junkers says to Tenma "You're like a parent to me" it's very heartwarming and wholesome. Yet when Johan says the exact same line later on in the episode, it's nothing but chilling and unsettling. I would say his charisma is one of the scariest things about him. FYI, his voice actor is Nozomu Sasaki, who also voices Mellow in Death Note! Sorry half of this was just me being fascinated with Johan 😂😭 but great reaction as always and can't wait for your next reaction :)

The moment you see him in the shadows, you KNOW it's going to be iconic, and then that entire moment of Tenma turning to see his beautiful face in the shadows. Oof. What an episode to grab ahold of you and not let go! I hope you enjoyed the discussion and my ramblings!

Interesting! I'm not sure why that was, then? Could have just been a quick color error, but thank you for the comment and info! :)

Ahhh, Johan's introduction is insanely good and I LOVE that his VA is also Mello's?! Insanity, but I love it! Yessss, I agree with what you say about Johan and things are really heating up, aren't they? Thanks so much for the info and comment!

Ooohhhh, that's a great point about the gunpowder residue and the rain! Hmmm, I am going to assume Tenma is innocent, but it's an interesting theory if anything! But yes, Tenma and his privileged worldview getting tested! What are his real thoughts? That is a great question -- it's definitely enough with this episode to throw Tenma into the trench...and that phrase....oof! Thanks for the comment!
