**UGLY TEARS-FILLED HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

Just as the mangaka gives us the fulfillment of seeing Sawamura become the ace in the last set, we see him suffer his first trip off the mound. But honestly, him leaving the mound isn't what drove me to tears; it was the way our sunshine boy handled the situation, the response of his teammates, and seeing how far everything's come from the despair of prior games and seasons that did me in.

But this set of episodes isn't about despair. It's about perseverance, about the friendship and healthy rivalries of our boys, about the passing on of teachings from mentor to mentee, and about setting up for the highest stakes of these boys' baseball careers so far...and I'm so READY for it!

It happens literally only twice but Sawamura calling Kuramochi "Yoh-chan" is really bloody cute lol their entire relationship in this game alone is super cute and the way Mochi wants so badly to help him relax and pitch the way he knows he can is just everything to me. Literal brothers that I love so much. Furuya during this game has been the actual sweetest. I know he's been a little sarcastic sass pot too but him standing there with water everytime Sawamura comes off the field is just too much. It really is his way of cheering for him and I love seeing it so much. I think something quite interesting about Sakaki is that he reminds me a lot of Makis coach. He's standing in the dugout giving signs to the pitcher and catcher to tell them what to throw like he doesn't trust them to make their own plays but I think he does trust them he just trusts his judgement more. Any time Kataoka outwardly supports and cheers for Sawamura, it makes me melt a little bit. Him putting his fist out saying "you got this" really kills me 😭 I'm so glad TJ included a flashback of the retirement practice for Nabe and the other 3rd years who didn't make the cut. It's so sweet to see how hard they all still wanted to work. And I love seeing Nabe actually playing and not just doing Intel on other teams. Kataoka is such a sweetheart with how he cares about ALL of his kids. The strategy Sakaki uses where he switches his pitchers after 1 full rotation of batters is the exact same strategy Kataoka used in season 1 on Yakushi for their first game against Seidou lol. Very cool. I'm right with you on Sakaki looking down on Nori. He really said "they only have Kawakami in the bullpen" ONLY? And then they get wiped out but Nori. Take that. I love seeing Nori and Sawamura do that energy thing. It really has become THEIR thing and it's adorable everytime. It's actually the third time they've done it but I don't remember the first time what team it was. Sawamura did it to Nori first and then Nori did it back and now Sawamuras doing it again 😭😭 so cute. I know it's a sad moment and you were crying but Furuya casually saying "you blew up faster than I thought" honestly cracks me up every time I see that scene lol. So brutal Miyuki in this game is so weird to how we know him. Pissed off the literal whole game, and also beating himself up for not being able to help Sawamura. "I wanted to do more for him" is such an emotional line for Miyuki to say and we've seen him take blame for Sawamura falling apart before but that was when he was a 1st year with no experience. Now Sawamura was more self aware and taking responsibility for it but Miyuki still blames himself. It's so interesting. Him supporting the team after being replaced is so in character for him. He hates to continue or start any cycles of negative thinking and you could tell he wanted to break it with himself so Nori could start fresh and positive. Best protagonist 👏🏼 I also find it really interesting that Sawamura crumbled so much under the pressures of not only himself but of the hopes and dreams of all the players on the team, retired 3rd years included, because it's such a call back to Chris in season 1 where he explained the role of an ace to Sawamura saying that the ace has to be able to take the mound with all their hopes and feelings and thoughts on his back because they're part of the team too. Seems he got an in person lesson on that but it's nice to see it come back around 2 seasons later. The Misawa fist bump I was so tense about at first. I really didn't think Miyuki was gonna do it cuz he was so mad but I'm glad he said what he needed to and it was in direct parallel to Sawamura during the fall finals telling Miyuki not to carry everything on his back just because he's the captain. Ahhh partners 🥰🥰 If you really pay attention in this series, Koushuu is always close by to Sawamura and always watching and observing him. Its really cute. I also really loved seeing Kataoka get praised by Sakaki. If Kataoka really is like Sawamura then he also would have craved the approval of his coach. The counseling session with Koushu and Sawamura is super sweet and cute and lovely. I'm glad Sawamura has someone who's always on his side and who's always there to talk to him or help him if he needs someone. I think Koushuu would've been a lot of help to him when he had the yips. I honestly don't think there was anything that anyone could've said that would've calmed Sawamura down. Whether it was Miyuki or Koushuu or even Chris. I think he would've been like that regardless of anything anyone said or did. He needed to experience that to grow. I'm so glad Furuya told Sawamura that he'll make sure he gets another chance to pitch because I think its coming from a personal place for him. Furuya has lost a game for the team before and I think he knows exactly how Sawamura feels about the desperation to prove himself. Ah pitching friends are great lol. Its been such a long journey watching these reactions and I can't believe it's almost over but I'm VERY excited for you to start the manga and I'm excited to see the next set 🎉🎉

Sawamura and Kuramochi’s relationship throughout this series has become one of my favorites; they are LITERALLY brothers. <3 Just like Furuya’s relationship with Sawamura – he gets some jabs in on our boy in the dugout, but he’s also standing there with water, ready to help. His jabs are his version of support like Sawamura’s cheers are and I love it. I also love how Nori gets appreciation in this set and how he and Sawamura have such a dynamic throughout this. Everything is coming full circle! I hadn’t thought about that with Sakaki being similar to Maki’s coach, but that is SO TRUE! That’s a really good point about both of those coaches not quite trusting their players, and it helps make sense why Sakaki has the reaction when his players talk about paying more attention to his videos/journals/etc. Towards the end of the game! I LOVE Kataoka’s support for Sawamura, and by Episode 50, it adds another layer of sweetness to it. And that parallel with Sakaki and Kataoka’s strategies on the pitcher relay…yesssss! The flashback of the retirement practice is SO GOOD. And yes, seeing Nabe playing got me! :3 Kataoka loves all his “kids!” <3 It’s so jarring seeing Miyuki so angry and mad at himself and the situation throughout this game. It’s like he wanted to make Sawamura’s first time on the mound as the ace be the best it could be and is upset that he wasn’t able to make him “shine” to his full potential! It’s definitely interesting! And conversely, I love that Sawamura is self-aware and still cheering on his team despite being taken out! Ace status, indeed! And yes, it’s great to see that Sawamura didn’t forget Chris’s words; I love that we get coming full circle with that as well! I did feel tense with the fist bump, but Sawamura isn’t going to let the two of them falter so easily! #partners I also love how Koshu is constantly by Sawamura’s side watching him; I hope we get to see parts of them together in Sawamura’s third year. I bet it’d be adorable! It’s healthy that Sawamura has someone like Koshu who can so easily communicate with him! Man, if Koshu had been around during Sawamura’s yips, he probably would have been JUST as stressed! And yesssss, Furuya and Sawamura – pitching friends, rivals, teammates – I love it so! Thank you for the kind words and comment on this! I’m so sad that the anime is over (for now), but SO HYPED for the manga! :) Be ready for me fangirling!
